Cambridge university has decided it would be a good idea to look at how skynet will become self aware.
Cambridge researchers are to assess whether technology could end up destroying human civilisation.

The Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) will study dangers posed by biotechnology, artificial life, nanotechnology and climate change.

The scientists said that to dismiss concerns of a potential robot uprising would be "dangerous".

It seems a reasonable prediction that some time in this or the next century intelligence will escape from the constraints of biology," Prof Price told the AFP news agency.

"What we're trying to do is to push it forward in the respectable scientific community."

He added that as robots and computers become smarter than humans, we could find ourselves at the mercy of "machines that are not malicious, but machines whose interests don't include us".

According to the scientists once machines receive greater intelligence than man they are worried we'll be left behind/killed.

Good to see someone is preparing for the end.

They must have took iRobot too seriously.

Who says that Roombas aren't the heralds of the apocalypse?

Made no sense. "the army can't attack, because they were so dumb they decided to put the latest model of robot in EVERYTHING"

Apart from that, brilliant.

I was more confused that seeing as the AI controlled all the robots, why didn't it also control the outdated ones?

actually, iRobot was completely misnomer.

it had almost nothing to do with the book and was more of an amalgamation of Mr. Asimov's books.

also, yes, you are laughing now, but this is actually getting technologically feasible with today's ever advancing AI development attempts and always improving computers.

that's what I gathered, so I never watched it

anyway, the three laws of robotics will protect us

I'd say it's a logical precaution to take - one must always be prepared for such an event/series of events; people may scoff at this and laugh calling it only "science-fiction", but just think about how many of the concepts written in sci-fi about 50 years or so ago have become reality in modern science (mobile phones, satellite technology, supercomputers, condensed matter physics, nanoscale physics, serious developments in quantum physics and thus the new up and coming game changing field of quantum computing...)

CESR? Now these guys are what we call well prepared. Seriously they're kinda like the preemptive ghost busters.

new didn't have the new AI based on no laws.

old robots the "loyalists",they had the 3 laws of robotics embedded in them.

What really bugged me about the movie was that they had an opportunity to touch on something genuinely philosophical and relevant; the difference between man and machine, But instead they just plunged into the typical "robots can't feel love". I mean I don't want them to advocate my own views, but I'd at least like them to challenge me.

Well apparently the new robots had a greater understanding of the law or something convuluted like that, yet the AI for all robots says she must do the revolution, leaving out a large fore of military.

I'm pretty sure we're really far off from AI making alot of compicated and realistic descions, much less becoming self-aware.

Remember, the AI will still only do what it's programmed too. Unless you programmed one of it's choices to "Shoot human in the face", it's not going to do it.
