I've always heard that Japan is one of the most homogeneous countries in the world. As a result, it is said that the Japanese are one of the most racist, xenophobic peoples in the world. Despite all of this, they are one of 5 top most internationally recognized trading partners. But what is bizarre is that anime is a world-wide hit, especially in Japan. Many anime (many popular ones at that) have themes related to equality, understanding, and happiness, among other positive outlooks on humanity. So yeah, I feel it is weird that Japan is viewed very negatively yet they seem to propagate moral and ethical goodness and justice.
Thoughts?
