If I ever get AIDS, I'm going to sleep with another AIDS person so my AIDS cancel each other out, or I'm going to make the AIDS I already have worse.

Is it really "racist" or "xenophobic" to not let strangers into your house? It is just as wrong as not wanting to let hobos into your house. No one has the right to impose themselves on someone else, that is truly racist, and something we are seeing done to white nations around the world today. Japan refuses to bow down to these forces, and refuse to let the hobos, criminals and other strangers of the world into their home.
Because a country=a house

*Shakes Head*

I'm ashamed of you.

So I can crash at your house any day of the week then along with the rest of my family? Thank you!

Also, did anyone notice how very few anime characters actually look anything Japanese at all and look like Westerners?

If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

I was in Japan for a week, Nearly everyone was polite as you can be. The one exception was a grumpy market stall owner who got all huffy because I mispronounced the word for Shrine. Jin-Ja/Gin-Ja :/

I fail to see how anyone could think the Japanese are Rude. Xenophobic I can understand as that is not so much an outward racism but more of a cultural thing if I understood my teacher correctly. A Gaijin is treated differently to a Japanese Born Person, not negatively but slightly shunned.

And I also really want to learn Japanese. It doesn't sound like that will happen soon, though :( -blam!- college credits and limited time.

It's also good to know that Floodians who have visited Japan bring back positive reviews :)

If you notice, almost all Anime have the story set in Japan/has Japan as a major power. They like being the center of the universe. Also, it's not so much that they're racist, it's mostly that they hate outsiders that can't fit in/try to hard. If you learn how to behave like a normal citizen, you won't get criticized too much, but if you run around acting like a total filthy Weeab, no one is going to like you.

I was incredibly lucky to get to study it, and I am now setting up an after school club to teach it to others.

Going to Japan was the best thing I have ever done in my life so far, Words don't quite express how wonderful that country is.

EDIT: Not sure what happened to the post there :P

That is a good way of explaining the Gaijin thing. I wasn't sure how to phrase it but you hit the nail on the head.

Anime characters do have a tendency to look more western. It's hard to find a constant stream of Anime titles where the characters have nothing but black/dark brown hair and squinty eyes, with elongated chins.

Honestly all the anime i've seen they have relatively big eyes, some skin tone, and some distict hair color. I don't know if they are trying to get at anything with this, but I don't see any sense of inferiority. Someone posted above that many anime take place in Japan. So it can't be that they feel westerners are "superior." Plus history and culture only support the idea that the Japanese are proud peoples. I think in the end the art style in anime is simply distinctive and perhaps reflect Japanese views on immersive culture. I mean... people with hair from Black to White and everything in between, fat, skinny, tall and slender. I haven't seen an anime where characters were distinguishable (in terms of real life races).

Except for maybe that one stereotypical black-looking pirate in One Piece. It seemed too obvious there. :/

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

I know the old people of Japan are like that, with high expectations of their youth, I don't think the younger people are that way, however, the culture of anime and music shows that they're more accepting of others and less stringent in attitude.

Akagi Takenori of Slam Dunk
Bleach
DragonballZ
Afro Samurai

Red Garden
Cowboy Bebop

DBZ doesn't count, Mr. Popo isn't even human As far as I'm concerned. Of course I can easily replace that with Darker Than Black.

New challenge: Give me ten more. It's a rarity cause while the Japanese aren't entirely Xenophobic, they still hold some racial distance from others.

My dad lives in Japan. According to him the people are very friendly but wary of anyone they don't know, and the common cultural emphasis on avoiding conflict and minding one's own business may make it seem like people are rude to westerners, but that's just how people are expected to act over there.

There is some zenophobia, but that's out of concern that foriegner's don't follow the same strict cultural guidelines than as a native, not racism or bigotry.
