...wow.

Just...wow. Do you really believe that GMOs are better than natural, organic food?
In the long run, yes I do. Whats the point of not using them if half the world depends on the USA for corn and other crops. We could not support the rising population without them. It would be impossible
Which is why overpopulation is the problem. And chemically induced, cancer-causing sprays should never be used on our food.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I would think because there are hardly any job opportunities for it, and that should be the point of college: to give you a degree that you can use for a job.

Because school is expensive enough without paying for bull-blam!- degrees.

Explain how liberal arts is a bull-blam!- degree, moron.

Because being sort of alright at a lot of useless things is bull-blam!-.

Do that -blam!- in your own time.

Lol. Biology isn't useless. Psychology isn't useless. Physics isn't useless. Mathematics isn't useless. Chemistry isn't useless. Writing and english aren't useless.

And really? People should learn all that stuff on their own time? Isn't that what college is for in the first place? You're an idiot.

Next bull-blam!- reason please since your claim that Liberal Arts is useless has been destroyed.

What?! Biology, physics, mathematics and chemistry are not "liberal arts"! They are the proper sciences (not "social sciences" and all that rubbish) - biology and organic chemistry are natural sciences and physics, mathematics and physical chemistry are physical/mathematical sciences; none of them can ever be defined as bloody "liberal arts".

Then explain how I took those classes under my liberal arts major, idiot.

  • 11.27.2012 4:10 PM PDT

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

There's nothing wrong with it.

Just that it's a financially bad decision. Jobs in the liberal arts are hard to come by.
Many people view it as silly to pursue a degree that will almost certainly not land you a job.

Welcome to Capitalism. The point of college is to learn a set of skills and get a degree that will help you get a job. (And to also consume as much alcohol as possible in a 5 year period.)

Because evidently the American "education" system (I assume that's where you are) seems to be moronic.

I dread to think how watered down each of those subjects would've been all under one course... *shudders*

And all of my fellow physicists (and other scientists for that matter) would feel physically sick if I told them that physics falls under the "liberal arts" category in the US "education" system; I know that I feel sick.

I'm not in college yet, but I'm pretty sure you can't just major in the liberal arts. You have to major in English, or History or whatever. Unless he's referring to an Associate of Arts degree, which is just all the general ed stuff before you get into your major.

Otherwise, I agree completely with you.

Oh I see, I don't know all that much about the US education system really - one thing I do know is that it sounds odd.

I feel sick too. Remember General Studies in High School? Imagine being taught Physics in there. *shudder*

Are you in the UK? I didn't do general studies at secondary school in the UK - perhaps they do it now in schools in Britain? I'm not sure.

Yes I am, not sure if it compulsory GS was exclusive to my high school or it you and I attended high school at different times.

But in my school AS General Studies was compulsory, didn't turn up to the exam and got a U. It was a total waste of time, I remember one lesson being asked to write a 2 page essay answering ""Music today is better than ever" How far do you agree with this statement"

Oh right, thankfully I didn't have to do it - I did Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Further Mathematics at A-Level.

And that essay question sounds like utter bollocks - in-fact all of general studies sounds like utter bollocks from what I've heard of it.

Can you try to explain the UK education system? What does A level mean? And what does the grade "U" mean?

Here in the US, you go to school for about 13 years. Kintergarten- 12th grade. 1-5th grade is typically considered Elementary school. 6-8th grade is usually called middle school- at this point you're still learning the basics. 9-12th grade is called High School, and you actually learn some pretty good stuff if you take Honors and AP classes.

The grades are A-F. A being the best, F being the worst.

A= 90%-100%
B= 80%-89%
C= 70%-79%
D= 60%-69%
F= 0%069%

It is, I did Maths, Chemistry, Physics and History at AS Level, then Maths, Chemistry and Physics at A2, I think the whole idea was if you were a bit thick you could get some UCAS points from GS, even though point scoring universities are -blam!-, and the -blam!-est of the -blam!- universities accepted General Studies points.

In the exam I was told the question was "Cannibalism can never be justified - How far do you agree with this statement".

Total and utter bollocks

Lol, UCAS points based universities - you know a university is not going to be good when it asks for points rather than grades and accepts GS as an A-Level subject.

I'm at the University of Birmingham (a Russell Group and Red Brick member Uni, of course!) - studying physics.

You have a basic idea that everyone should be socialist, eat organic foods, and not advance technologically.

Best part was I was sat next to a prick from a private school who came to our school in the 6th form, to do philosophy, politics, English lit and sociology, the kind who has to have an opinion on literally everything.

Never stopped banging on about his love for classical music and his knowledge of the political system.

Can one of you scroll up a few posts and answer my question?

Now get in the van.

The Black Chapter

Liberal Arts: The study of subjects that all free men should undertake to nurture logic and -blam!-.
People really should learn what the -blam!- 'Liberal Arts' includes because Maths and Science both fall under it.

Straight Edge.

It's amazing how utterly opposed American culture seems to be to the idea of going to university to enrich understanding, knowledge, and perspective as opposed to just getting a fatter pay cheque.

It might be because of the insane amounts of money you guys have to pay for a degree though. It might force you to see it as a financial investment rather than a holistic one.
