Guys are pretty much no life virgin nerds for playing video games, but a girl doing it is majority of the time seen as more attractive, etc.

That's a matter of opinion.

I find it kind of funny, gaming is a male dominated hobby with majority of gamers being male. A male trying become part of a female dominated hobby will most likely find it just as hard to 'fit in' and not be 'discriminated' or insulted for doing it. In example if a guy wanted to... for example, do cheer leading or ballroom dancing or ballet.

Thoughts, Flood?

It's called double standards, and it's something both genders deal with. There's no point in saying one is more important than the other or one deals with more sexism. Just because this one article addresses female sexism among the video game community, doesn't mean there's others out there that don't point out male sexism in other matters.

I agree, Sexism happens far more with women in gaming than to men, but still doesn't mean we should flat out ignore it for males. Work towards both instead of leaving out men.
I don't feel like it is "leaving out men" to examine a problem that predominantly affects females.

I don't give a -blam!- about how hard anything it is for a woman to 'make a game'. I don't give a -blam!- about the gender of who makes video games, movies, books, paintings, etc. Art's art. So long as it's good art, I don't give any more of a -blam!- about it, I enjoy it.
Why the hell do they always push this stuff?
Hm, now I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you're a white(ish) young (at least) middle class male.

So it really doesn't surprise me that you don't understand why things like sexism are an issue, because you're privileged.

No, I just don't give a flying -blam!- about it. In certain areas like politics or big business it is an issue, but I don't give a damn about the arts areas or society. There's bigger problems than it, far bigger ones, that should get more publicity, and I get tired whenever it comes up. It's not critical, there's greater problems, and they should be tackled first.

If you don't care about this, then why are you posting about it?

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...

Yup, women feel as if they are more victimised than men in all walks of society even though they aren't.

Nothing new to see here.

If abuse or anger is present it is almost always portrayed as a male being the culprit.

Males in the gaming industry (be it gamers or employees) face sexism and harassment as well. Robert Bowling (402) got countless death threats in his time of Community Manager at IW.
This is not necessarily an example of anti-male sexism.

Regardless, sexism is bad, regardless of whom it's against, and it is perfectly acceptable for gaming companies to take actions against it to try to widen their potential consumer base.

The "sexism" you described was all purely harassment, or based on personality/physical traits other than sex. If women playing games is seen as attractive, that's because men (or -blam!-s/bi-blam!-s, but mostly men) find them attractive for that reason. If a dude's called a "nerd", it's usually because he fits the classic nerd archetype, and any women who also fit the requirements would be called the same thing.

I won't deny sexism towards males, but the quantity is so small and minute that it's barely worth discussing. Regardless, the page is about sexism towards women, which is definitely a prominent issue in gaming culture, not regular harassment.

As far as I'm concerned (in terms of sexism from consumers), the industry is reaping the seeds they've sown. If you water your games down to appeal to the early teenage male audience, you don't have the right to be shocked when they're immature and chauvinistic.

No excuse for that -blam!- in the workplace though. That's the kind of thing that'll get you fired.

well, i dont think i would enjoy a game where the main character is a chick... Like if Master Chief was a woman or if Ezio was female...

The majority of gamers are male, so it is stupid to make a character like that a male. It's simply easier to identify with someone of the same gender.

This.

As a guy, I really wouldn't want to play as a female in a video game. I don't know, I just want the in-game character to share some characteristics with me (hence customization options, character being male etc.) but thats just me.

A. I don't agree that the underlined part is necessarily true.

B. Maybe if there were more female characters, more girls and women would play video games. I think you're coming at this from the wrong perspective.

Lmao at the article: "Mirror's edge had one of the most memorable protagonists"...
*Tries to remember what the main character's name was*
