343 didn't learn anything from Reach
While I'd like to hear your opinions, I'd like it if you'd read the content of my post before responding. I don't consider 343 succeeding with what they've added or kept onto this game. They'll never make a game even close to comparable among Halo CE - 3.
Honestly, it seems to me that is nostalgia speaking. Halo 2 had a great campaign because it massively expanded the scope of Halo's lore, not because it necessarily developed characters. Halo 4 executed many basic "Writing 101" elements far better than any of Bungie's previous games. It seems as if 90% of those who praise Halo 4 started playing the series a few years after Halo 3's release. They don't understand how great the originals were in their prime, and don't view the games from their time.
Why else do you think there's been a decline in population, fans, and hype among the games?
Decline in population can be attributed to many things, namely the rise of Call of Duty ever since MW1 in 2007. Halo's fall in online popularity is a five year old phenomenon and cannot reasonably be attributed to 343i's oversight. I wouldn't say there is a decline in fans and hype (especially considering the sales success of Halo 4). The original Halo games were great (even though many seem to forget Halo 3's lackluster campaign), but it is irrational to claim that they were better in every single way.
I assume you're referring to turning Master Chief from a strong silent type to an annoying chatterbox, and Cortana from a sassy fireball to an apologetic whiner?
To someone like me who is a canon junkie, it was pure silliness how "stoic" the MC was in previous Halo games. In the novels, he isn't depicted as a chatterbox (and he isn't depicted this way in Halo 4 either, for that matter), but as someone who communicates quite extensively with his fellow S-IIs and, in a special case, Cortana.
Cortana's agreeably whiny attitude is clearly intentional given the traits a Smart AI is inclined to assimilate once it reaches rampancy stage. Cortana is dealing with the fact that she isn't a human despite the fact that every line in her coding at this point is screaming at her that she is. This was depicted very well in Halo 4.
Your judgments are either hyperbole or a lack of consideration of context.
