Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

Bang on. Totally agree.

Except for the music. Marty's music is better than Davidge's. However, I need to have Davidge's on my iPod and listen to it in isolation, and reflect on its marriage with the rest of the game, to truly appreciate it.

I wouldn't say there is a decline in fans and hype (especially considering the sales success of Halo 4).
Halo 3 still outsold Halo 4 in both of their first weeks...

3. Halo Reach made around $20 million less on its first day than Halo 4. Does that mean anything? No.
I'm giving you a broader time period.

And it hardly makes a difference because to suggest popularity of a franchise is waning based on comparatively minuscule discrepancies without considering context is foolish.

You actually think Halo is more popular than it was 5 years ago?

It depends on what you're measuring popularity by. Online? No dispute it is less popular. In terms of investment from existing players? I'd wager it's around the same. Also, any wane in popularity cannot be attributed entirely on changes; popularity wanes with the life-span of a franchise and with more competition it faces.

Why Bungie, why would you do this?! - Halo Community

You would think after a war that lasted decades the human race might need time to recover. Nope. In a few years, they just randomly decide to continue to build a gigantic warship that is completely pointless considering the war ended.

343i has yet to explain why jackals have evolved (and with unclear motive. Most jackals did not believe the prophets and were paid mercs, and if the Storm is a gathering of surviving elites and their ships who still believe in the prophecy, then they really should not have that many resources to offer to them. At least Drones were properly dropped.)

I honestly did not buy Halo 4 to listen to Cortana whine the entire campaign. They overdid the rampancy thing.

And you cannot call Halo 3's campaign lackluster while Halo 2's ending still exists in this universe. Really, its kind of obvious you weren't here to see the backlash it got.

The last word I would use to describe Halo 4 is success.

I'd use a word similar to success though.

Canonical decisions 343i have made can be disputed easily (and is a subject of great interest to me), but this isn't really too relevant to my discussion here because a) Halo 4 is not about these changes at its core and b) the changes are no less disputed than Bungie's changes to the Battle of Reach.

I'm aware of the backlash to Halo 2's cliffhanger, but the campaign minus the ending was received well and was more critically acclaimed than Halo 3's rather weak campaign.

As you progress throughout your life you realize that the older you get the closer your are to death, the only thing you cannot change.

ITT: People claiming they know Halo's canon not realizing that they're idiots with the lore, so they think they can -blam!- about Halo 4's plot. "Why did the UNSC build the infinity? The war was over" Whoever said that is a dumbass.

But background canon makes up a good campaign. If the Halo series started at 3, it wouldn't make much sense, would it? Besides, they mention the Infinity every 5 -blam!- minutes. I've never felt so much forced attachment in a video game, ever.

While I'm aware of some of Halo 3's weaknesses, I'd like to hear your take on it.

I know it was built for colonization/ONI propagonda/whatever you want it to be built for, and it was being built prior to the war ending. But to pull a plot device as big as that out of thin air is bold in a bad way, and so "conveniently" fits right into the plot. Besides, I mentioned it was being built before the war.

ITT: People with more lore knowledge being idiots themselves, not realizing how bad a plot device the Infinity is and being dumbasses in their own way.

Me after a physics lecture "So what you're saying is, non of it actually exists"
Yellow box "and I thought we were crazy"

A lot of the things you mention bungie failed on weren't actually failures, they never tried to do them in the first place so couldn't have failed. If you mean failed to implement that is entierly subjective and based upon what the individual thinks should be implemented, of course the individuals are usually not game developers and usually suppourt short sighted decisions.

The last cutscene was good, but besides that it was pretty boring.

The cutscenes were much better, Chief and Cortana actually had some depth and their characters were expanded on much more. Hell, the whole universe was expanded so much, and 343 was able to introduce a lot of new things without being too confusing (contrary to popular belief, you don't need the novels to understand the story, I haven't read a single one.)

The gameplay itself is much better. No boring, tedious levels like The Library, Cortana, or Nightfall, every mission was vastly unique with interesting new concepts and ideas, the enemies are all interesting and fun to fight, very little backtracking or repetition, plus the graphics and music kick ass.

I agree, but the fight with the Didact should've been better. Other than that, I love the hell out of this game.

I care more about the multiplayer games in halo since thats what I spend 99% of my time in halo doing. 343 has a lot to fix and work on. Many things that were fine in previous Halo games are now a total annoyance like JIP ripping you off every game.

A boss fight wouldn't have made any sense at this point. 'Chief, in his current state, is so inferior to the Didact's power that it wouldn't have been believable. I think they did the right thing in not having him engage in a direct battle, and have him and Cortana simply stop him for the moment.
