I'm looking to buy an e-book reader as a Christmas gift. Any recommendations? Also, who has the best library?

also, they don't need anything other than an e-reader, so no tablets

Amazon probably has the best library. Go with something along the lines of the HD kindle.

e-ink is great if you read outside a lot, as it won't glare. If it's going to be used indoors more and in lower-light conditions, go with a backlit display.

I'd actually say it's better indoors. You can use external lighting which can be matched so that it's not too bright. Less strain on the eyes, much closer to using a natural book.
