I completely love this idea. It would be like the Master Chief finds an Assault Rifle on the ground, picks it up, and makes a few changes to the barrel and stock. Seconds later he is kicking ass.

Maybe the game could incorporate this in! maybe that the Master Chief has on him the specifications that you want, and when you pick up the corresponding weapon, he attaches it to the weapon before firing, this could add a level of strategy that wouldnt take away from the core of Halo, some people might disagree though, also, when you drop the weapon you dissatach the specifications you had

Maybe you could only have a specific amount of attachement for a specific amount of weapons? but i still feel its pulling away from Halo at its core..

I'm sorry to say this, but more customization for the few who would like it means a lot more time spent on that, and less time making something else that everyone enjoys. Not everyone enjoys that type of custom gameplay, that's why they play Halo. It's simplistic enough to pick up, and if you practice and gain skills at the existing gameplay then it is hard to put down. The idea of beating someone on a level playing feild is elementary to replay value.

Fair point. I do agree that the Halo fan base is a very simple minded group(for lack of a nicer word to say). Hell I am only 15 myself. But for those of us who have a broader imagination it would be interesting downloadable content made by Bungie or even the CMT team recent;y brought into the eyes of the public because of their variations of Halo Campaign.

Imagination? Do you know what games do to imagination? They don't use it. The game imagine's things for you and you just participate in the world or activities it provides. You don't make the game, Bungie does, I shouldn't have to repeat that. This idea is just bringing an element into a mix that is already great. If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it.

First of all, there is no need to get hostile. I did nothing to personally offend you, if you want to make a comment, try not present it in a nicer and more mature way.

Now when you say imagination is not used at all, I completely disagree with you. If Bungie made this game, and didn't give me options and I just "participate in the world or activities it provides" then Bungie will have failed on Halo 3. From the way I see it, Bungie is all about getting the gamer thinking. "Should I charge in dual wielding, or should I pick them off with my Battle Rifle? I know maybe I will charge in with my Battle Rifle, and as the Grunts retreat to their superior Elites hiding behind the boulder, I will stick a Grunt with a plasma greande making my enemy a walking time bomb." Bungie gets the player to think and use his/her mind while playing. Also, the story line is impossible to follow without imagination.

EDIT: Sorry didn't mean to post this again.

How likely are you to carry one specific weapon throughout one whole campaign mission?

If you customized a gun, chances are you're still gonna drop it halfway through the mission to pick up a different gun.

They are saying that if you customized the Assault Rifle lets say, every time you picked up an AR in the game it would be automatically customized to the way you had it.

Despite all of what has been said, I still think that adding a feature like this would not feel like Halo. I am not against change, and I am not against anyone, I just think that it would take away from what has already been established. This would still mean that you would have to pick up the different covie weapons during the campaign because it would seem strange that BOTH sides started fashioning the same type of fighting style at the same time. Which means that ....ok, fine, your idea is not bad, and it "could" fit in, but it's deffinitely not your idea if they even went that direction. It has been done before.

Now if you think I'm hostile because I said some things with sincerity, then you are wrong. That's just argueing my point with emphasis.

TrustDaTruth, we see where your opinion lies, and i personally agree with you, and where not trying to change the game, trust me, just read my earlier posts, they made a believer out of me, and i agree it feels a little wee bit un-haloish or something, and im kinda still a mixed bag, but thats what were doing here, trying to figure out a way to make it work in the game, i dont think it would hurt, and i personally think, that, if not the characteristics of the weapon, why not the look of it?

For those of you who have read the books, you know that the spartans modify their weapons before battle. Linda for example, always put an Oracle scope on her S2 Sniper Rifle. Wouldn't it be cool to customize guns in that kind of way. For istance You could shorten the barrel on the new "Assault Rifle" to increase power but it would decrease range. You could change it to what type of fighter you are: Rampo or Splinter Cell. This might not be good for Multiplayer because of balance problems but it would be fun in customs.
Don't flame only constructive criticism.

hmmm, what about this:

as you all know, halo live has 50 levels for players, now i see 2 ways to use this to an advantage:

1)the more levels you get, the more customizations for guns you get(and maybe vehicles and your spartans armor)

or

2)the lower your level, the more customizations

i also would like to note that these sh/could be set before the game so players dont waste time on them, this would also lead to pretty interesting game play, ill give an example using 4 player slayer, what the players modifactions are, and the map example

map: coagulation

player 1 prefeers sniping with a battle rifle so his modifaction makes his battlerifle have 8x zoom at the cost of ammo per clip. his 2nd weapon will be a sniper, with increased power(one shot kills) but only has 1 shot per clip.

player 2 prefeers duel wielding, his first weapon is duel plasma rifles, his modifactions include slower over heating at the extence of power. and his second is an smg and magnum, his pistol is upgraded to be as strong as old halo pistol(3 shots to head kill) at the cost of firing speed, and his smg is more accuate at the cost of power.

player 3 is used to old halo so he has a pistol, with scope and 3 shot kill at the cost of ammo and fireing speed. his battle rifle has more ammo per clip but no scope and less acc.

player 4 is a newbie testing out the system. his first weapon is a shotgun, he traded all its ammo per clip but 1 for power and some acc, so he has to reload every shot. his second weapon is duel smgs, he traded the smgs fireing speed for a lil more power

game starts every one has a battle rifle, this gives player 1 and 3 a lil advantage due to there modifactions, but later on they all find there favourite weapons(ones they changed) the game would go like a normal one, but more people would boast on how there modifactions rock more then everyone elses

i myself prefeer system 2, the lower the level, the more changes, and heres how i would have the modifaction system set up:

in an extra screen that you enter (though opations or what ever) it has a list of weapon, lets say we select battle rifle

in the battle rifle screen there would be these bars:

Power- Weaker--------------------Stronger
Fireing Speed- Slower------------------Faster
Acc. Spread---------------------Close <---(aka Range)
Scope no-2x-8x
Ammo Per Clip low---------------high
energy/max ammo low----------------------high

now each would have a default, and a min/max this way you cant make the sucky mag into some sort of a super sniper, by limiting the changes

i could also show something for armor enhancments:

Shield Power low----------------------high
Jump Hight low-----------------------high
Run Speed slow-------------------fast
Active Camo yes-no
Radar yes-no

now theres 3 ways all this could be effected: lower level= more, higher level= more or only in custom matches

and of course every thing would have defualts and min/max changes(active camo for armor would require alot of stat lowering maybe even no radar) eg: magnum cant go past meduim strength, and sniper cant hold more than 8 ammo or we weaker then 4 body shots kill(2 to head)

all in all, to much costization can be bad, so we gotta limit it, but it can be fun
