There are so many reasons why manuals are better, it makes you more involved in actually driving the car.

I wish manual drivers could see how dumb statements like that sound.

It's almost like they don't realize that cars are just for transportation and try to justify themselves to seem better than everyone.

"People that drive automatics...want to pay as little attention as possible to what they're doing."

Quite the opposite. Not having to focus on gear shifting lets the driver be more aware of what is going on around him, lets the driver focus on more important things, and frees a hand in case of a need to swerve out of the path of obstacles.
Except in practice that's not true at all. A manual forces you to pay attention to your speed; you can't just accidentally accelerate to high speed without realising it. Every automatic driver I've ever witnessed just zones out and ignores what the car is doing, because it's shifting for them.

Also, the whole "extra hand for swerving argument" is retarded. Shifting doesn't take that long to do, and any swerving you do in a low-speed urban environment can be done one-handed anyways.

I've always found it odd how insulting fans of manual transmissions can be. The idea that people that drive automatic are "lazy" or don't enjoy driving is ludicrous and baseless.
Probably because automatics are inferior in every way, suck all of the enjoyment out of driving, and contribute to lazy and dangerous driving practices.

Door Kickers Inc.

I can drive both. The vehicle I currently have is an automatic.

Call me Rdog, not RdOG or RdOG1507. I made that username when I thought it was cool to use alternating capital and lowercase letters...

I have a vague knowledge of how to drive a manual transmission car, but all the cars I've had have been automatic.

Automatic because there is no reason to learn how to drive a stick shift.

Have nice day.

I prefer manual because my daily is an auto and at certain speeds it has a hard time finding the right gear so it jumps around alot.

It's funny because Spartan numbers is right.

Pros of manuals:
-forces you to pay attention to the cars speed and revs, which in turn forces you to pay more attention to your driving
-better gas mileage
-ability to engine-brake
-ability to self-jump-start
-theft-deterrent (in America, at least, where most people are too stupid to work a third pedal)
-simpler, meaning it's less likely to break and is easier and cheaper to fix when it does

I like manual better, however. Just because it feels like I'm actually driving the vehicle.

You actually are more involved in driving the car... Think that one through?

I like how we had a nice peaceful discussion until an idiot tried to lengthen his e-peen by insulting manual drivers.

If cars were for transporting from A to B then there wouldn't be Sports cars, or races. Cars can also be fun. Just cause you don't know what fun is because you drive a Camry, doesn't mean that others can't have fun in their Mustangs, BMW's, or RX-7's.

I can't drive an automatic, only stick. Seriously, I drive a manual so much that when I get in an automatic, I can't keep my left foot off the brake. I find manuals to be much more fun to drive anyway. Also, anyone used to driving manual will drive it just as easily as someone in an automatic, it's no handicap or distraction unless the driver is inexperienced.

This is essentially what I meant with my earlier post.

I'm not saying I'm better then everyone else for preferring them, I'm saying this because there are lots of advantages for manuals, when something breaks it's cheaper and less complicated and it can save you gas if you shift right.

It does make you more involved in driving, you don't put it in drive and go. It takes a bit more effort. The car isn't shifting for me, I'm doing it. I have a say whether I'm saving gas or trying to have more fun. It gives you more freedom. Sorry if I am making it seem like I'm better then everyone, I'm not trying to say that. I'm just saying why I think manuals are better.

My third montage!

I drive a stick shift because I enjoy it. Not because I think I am somehow better than everyone else. I feel more connected to the car as well as having more control over the car.

But most of all? It's just damn fun.

I went outside today. The graphics were AMAZING. The gameplay WASN"T.

Maybe I should cry for help
Maybe I should kill myself
Blame it on my ADD baby

I use both.

My work truck is a manual, my personal car is an automatic. I really do not understand the manual > auto argument.

Man am I jealous. Right now I just wish that I had a track worthy car. Sadly there also aren't really any tracks near me either, the closest tracks that aren't ovals are Barber Motorsports Park and Road Atlanta. I haven't visited BMP yet but I was at Road Atlanta this year for the Petit LeMans and holy crap was it awesome!
