Arguing over -blam!- cars? You people never cease to amuse me.

Just for the record, cough syrup is the bane of my existence.

Paddle shifter master race.

Automatic.

A car exists to get me from point A to point B. Why this should require more work, I don't know.

I definitely believe every wildly inflated claim ITT.

Weow kid, do you even lift?

I drive an auto but would much prefer a manual. When I get my new car (Holden VE SS) ill be getting it as a manual. Manuals are much more fun to drive.

The Marines have landed and the situation is well in hand!

You act as though it's unusual for people to argue about cars.

Why manual is superior, in general when comparing manual versus automatics on the same car:

1. Better gas mileage
2. Manual transmissions are lighter than automatics
3. Cheaper - automatics are an upgrade option
4. Cheaper to maintain - require less scheduled maintenence
5. Cooling - automatic transmissions overheat easier
6. Gear ratios are generally longer in automatics - slower

So to drive an automatic, you pay more for gas, your car gets worse gas mileage, weighs more, is slower, costs more to maintain, costs more to buy, and is more likely to overheat.

Have fun kiddos.

This

Manual transmissions are far superior. I drive a 2005 Subaru STI (which only comes with a manual 6 speed), and I also have an 88 Mustang 5.0 auto. Not only is the Subaru much more fun to drive, due to the six speed, but it also puts a hell of alot more power to the ground than my 5.0. Not to mention it has four less cylinders.

Experience behind the wheel of both transmissions has taught me a couple of things about what to expect of drivers:

Manual drivers:
Car enthusiasts
Coordinated
Fuel efficient friendly

Automatic:
Could care less about cars/mechanics
Don't know what horsepower or torque means
Women
Kids that can't drive manuals so they make excuses about how much better autos are

Small Community, Lots of Fun. We do Halo, Minecraft, and much more.

I would still like to learn standard transmission, but my parent's manual car is currently out of inspection.

Break down, every single one of you.

Automatic, but I've been practicing.

Less than 10% of all cars made today are manual.

I am one of the less than 10%!

In my country you can't even get a driver's licence if you can't drive a manual.

America should do the same.

America: Land of the free, home of automatic transmissions.

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

I drive a stick shift because I enjoy it. Not because I think I am somehow better than everyone else. I feel more connected to the car as well as having more control over the car.

But most of all? It's just damn fun.
It can't be said any better.

I learned to drive on a manual car, although I currently have an automatic. I still drive manual transmissions every once in a while and it's an extremely useful skill to have.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Manual all the way.
