I gotta wonder, why is it that seemingly so many people take seemingly minor complaints and base a game's judgement on those little complains.
Remember Reach? How everyone complained about the addition of the Armor Abilities mechanic? How about our most recent example, Halo 4 and how everyone complained and bashed it for somewhat ridiculous reasons.
AND YET back went MW3 came out everyone was bashing it for being basically the same as MW2 and MW and not introducing any significant changes. YET when Halo Reach and Halo 4 where announced and DID introduce changes, Everyone moaned and complained.
I would go on to say something about going back and playing Halo 3, but I'm not in the mood to rant, I am genuinely curious about this.
My possibility (please correct me if I'm using the wrong word) is plain old nostalgia. Many of you played Halo CE, 2 and/or 3 as kids and have memories about how great they were and how perfect they seemed. However I do not believe that is the entire story.
If you really want to know my opinion, complaints like AAs and a slight change to the mechanics are NOT what make a bad game.
You will now read the following in Morgan Freeman's voice for extra emphasis.
You Wanna know what makes a bad game? Bad Controls. that makes a bad game.
Really dumb AI, game breaking bugs, Bad hit detection, bad User interface, screen tearing and texture pop in, inconsistent difficulty. Those make a bad game too.
Wanna know some bad games?
Risen, Two Worlds, Daikatana, Drake of the 99 Dragons,
Battleship: The movie game, -blam!-ing Street cleaning simulator, Sonic Free Riders
those are some AWFUL games need I say more?
Anyway, why does this happen? Someone PLEASE enlighten me.
