YEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

I'm free to smoke if I please.

There's no way to get back experiences you missed.
So start right now today and risk furiousness for bliss.

I'm a little confused about your question. In the title you say "Should they be banned?" and in your post you put "Should cigarettes be legal, or not?"

I voted no, but I'm not sure what I voted no to.

But IMO no, cigarettes should not be banned. People should be allowed to smoke themselves to death if they want to.

  • 11.28.2012 11:20 AM PDT

Medically speaking, yes, they should be banned. They are so bad for smokers and the people around them. My lungs already suck, I don't want to be around people that smoke.

However, the tobacco industry is huge and banning cigarettes all together would be bad for the economy. Instead, I'd rather they just ban all public smoking. One should only be able to smoke in a private environment, particularly someone's own home.

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

That's 106 ignorant people who apparently don't believe in allowing people to live their lives as they please.

  • 11.28.2012 11:27 AM PDT

My Brahman is ready.

As much as they are bad, they shouldn't necessarily banned. They provide a huge backbone to our economy (in terms of US), just like how beer companies are a huge a backbone as well.

  • 11.28.2012 11:28 AM PDT

No. It's up to you whether you want to kill yourself or not so they shouldn't be.

  • 11.28.2012 11:29 AM PDT

No?

And for the people who want tobacco and alcohol banned. Society is finally becoming less, and less ignorant. For example Marijuana becoming legal in 2 states, more will follow soon. Other drugs in the near future are going to become decriminalized/legalized. Mainly the drugs that are benign to health such as Psilocybin mushrooms, LSD, MDMA (ecstasy)

What I'm getting at is that you guys want to devolve as society and ban said substances, even though history proved that prohibition was a joke and will never work?

Then please.

Tell me how I'm ignorant.

who apparently don't believe in allowing people to live their lives as they please.
I'm all for people living their lives as they please.

If you want to -blam!- your car, go right ahead.

But I draw the line at things that either hurt yourself or others. Smoking cigarettes does both.

Then don't smoke in front of others. Most places don't allow public smoking anyway.

The Snow Leopard's wisdom includes: Understanding one's shadow-side; trusting one's inner-self; agility; strength; the ability to stalk; understanding the power of silence.

No, but it should be illegal for the people who male them to put -blam!- like fiberglass and tar in them.

Name them.

Because out here in California, aka Hippie Liberal State, public smoking is still allowed.

I want to be a serial killer, but the government says that I can't do that. They aren't allowing me to live my life as I please. There must be many others out there, so maybe we should get together and overthrow our government.

See where I'm going with this? Just because someone wants to do something, it doesn't mean that they should do it. And, no, my example isn't that extreme. Smoking is bad for both the smoker and the people around them. In the end, smoking is just a long term way of harming people.

Oh ho ho, somebody bought into the propaganda.
And let me preface this by saying, I HATE smoking. I think it's just gross. But I'm not dumb enough to begrudge someone who enjoys it.

A) Look up the number of deaths caused by lung cancer FROM SMOKING. Throat cancer is more common than lung cancer.
B) Look at the ratio of people that die in their 70's from smoking related lung cancer to the number of people that die from heart disease/high blood pressure/diabetes in their 40's because they eat like -blam!-.

That's -blam!- ignorant. People spewing garbage at people who smoke while they down a diet soda that contains 90% more harmful chemicals than a pack of cigarettes.

You need to look up the history behind how the cigarette industry was blind sided by some ridiculous claims as to their health risks.
It's very similar to the commonly held conception that vaccines care linked to autism, which they aren't.

Also, you're gonna come at me like I'm an idiot and then not address my perfectly valid points?

CDC: 443K people die each year to smoking.

Very good, you're almost there.
Now look up the number of people that die each year from heart disease.

Once you've done that, be a good little boy and run along now.

Heart disease has many factors, some of which are not under our control. Things like cigarettes, however, are under our control.

No, it shouldn't matter what an adult wants to put into their own body.

By this logic, should marijuana legal?

Yes

Shame on your for mentioning marijuana with drugs.

The problem is that the only thing about it is that it kills.

There is no reason to have recreational tobacco legal.

Plus, second-hand smoke.
