@ Crazy

Well that's just my hypothesis. If you were here around the time Reach was leaked, someone posted pics of pre-alpha content 6-8 months before launch. I still think they are aiming for a 2014 windows (I could be dead wrong of course) but even if the game comes out in 2013, pre-alpha or alpha isn't necessarily seen as far behind.
The contract says Fall 2013, but it could've been altered since then I s'pose.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

I recall Jason Jones moving away from Halo after Halo 2 was released to work on something else. So I imagine somewhere between 6-8 years, and that's just the beginning of working on it; the idea for it could have came much sooner.

Before ODST.
Nowthat picture makes so much sense. With the white circle outside of earth representing the traveller.
I thought it would be representing the moon.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

I'm thinking that thoughts could reach back to even the Marathon Ages because Destiny dates forward 700 years, just like Marathon, so it could've been originally planned as part of a future sequel. From there, the idea could have been stored away and slowly worked on for many years as a new IP. This explains why they wanted to make it like Star Wars, since it was pretty popular back then.

Here is a thread with some additional information. The Jason Jones working on Reach/ODST wasn't the same. There is a second Jason Jones at Bungie. So except for some advice on the missions of Halo 3 he hasn't contributed to any Halo game after Halo 2.

If Destiny is a child of Jones, I suspect that this has been brewing in Jason's noggin for quite some time.

He's been out of the spotlight for a while, and never really was one to look for attention, so following his projects/activities tends to involve a lot of guesswork and blank-filling.

If I am not mistaken, Halo 2 was the last project he was a creative lead on. I believe (but could EASILY be wrong) on or about the time of Halo 2, he spent a good deal of time "offloading" his concepts and visions of that universe to others (Staten, McLees, O'Connor, etc.) for them to "carry on" and he then began focusing on a then barely whispered of "mystery project".

If you consider Marathon, then Myth, then Oni to be early universe creation efforts and then Halo to be an attempt at a magnum-opus, then perhaps Destiny is Jones second magnum that he was compelled to start once he saw that Halo had enough inertia to be self-sustaining and directed/steered by others who loved/understood the project.

Oh well, just an old fan spouting speculation. I certainly don't know anything. In my life, I think that I only spotted Jones once at Pax 06 (he appeared like he was trying to blend in) and have nothing but the same news and sources that the rest of us have. But I don't mind dreaming and wondering.

It's pretty interesting but the mysterious project youre talkin about wasn't Project Phoenix ? a supposed Fantasy RTS ? like Myth or something like that ?

For Carnage Apply Within - We played Marathon before Marathon was cool!

With that much time being put into this game and it's story... This game is going to be the next halo. I'm so excited.
