Subject: Has the Meaning of Thanksgiving Been Lost?

With Black Friday starting earlier and earlier every year, and people rushing to the streets before their turkey is even cold, trampling over each other for cheap goods after being thankful for what they already have, I think so.

This is obviously not the case for everybody, but I think it's happening.

What do you think?

Inappropriate. Went a little to far with the butt hole tearing.

Thanksgiving has no meaning; it's just another turkey day.

Yes, not that it has had meaning in the last hundred years +.

Please do not send me group invites.

We should go back and celebrate the raping and pillaging of the American indigenous people.

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

Turkey is disgusting.

Religion breeds hate

I'm Canadian eh!? So things are different... They go pretty smoothly and I feel it is not losing the meaning/

That is not what Thanksgiving's about, but rather to give thanks for what we already have, hence the name. Who you give thanks to is up to your religion, or lack of thereof. Not about killing natives.

I agree with the guy above me, I don't like turkey. I said turkey jsut because is the most popular dish to be eaten.

.:[Jim Tuite]:.

We celebrate a day where we tricked some natives into showing there secrets then had a mass genocide. Then we say we are thankful for stuff...then we go and buy worthless crap the next day.

Is black Friday even worth the trouble? I've never went to out to buy anything on that day.

  • 11.27.2012 8:56 PM PDT

Well I spend time with my family, eat great food, and watch football.

Isn't that what thanksgiving is all about?

deej pls

We are thankful for all we have, then go out, trample, and fight others for a couple dollars off stuff we don't actually need.

OT: My family was really thankful. We all enjoyed a nice dinner, sat around and joked, and had a normal day. On Black Friday, my mother didn't shop, and my dad and I went fishing. Normal day.

This.

Also OT: The true meaning of Thanksgiving has been lost. It should be a time to remember how our dumbass forefathers set foot on this nation and nearly starved to death until the Indians decided to save our punk asses.

And then we turned around and have nearly eradicated them, forcing them into second class citizen hood in camps.

Also the cowboys vs redskins should play every thanksgiving.

Stuff.

I don't know, I'm neither American nor Canadian. St. Patrick's Day, St. Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas are all quite often celebrated for reasons quite different then their original reasons.

I do wonder what they'll be like in future.

Uh- no.

That would only hold meaning if you happen to be a descended from a person who was actually there- most people are not.

You wouldn't move from the US to Germany and celebrate Unity Day would you?
