I just want OP to understand. The one thing that "snobby" and "segregationalist" suburban people hate the most, are people who look down on them for how they act.
Yes, I made up segregationalist
When is the last you interacted with someone outside your community? Almost every day, I also go to school 500 miles from home. While I can't directly relate to your situation, I know people who do. My school is predominantly white but someone I know is from Harlem, which is the anti-white, he seems to have gotten used to the difference and is doing well last I could tell (a week or so ago and it has been almost 3 semesters).
Generally to be accepted by a group you have to adjust to the group. You can go in and not adjust, and it might work, but if you show negativity towards the group that you're trying to join, your chances of being accepted drop rapidly.
Here is a situation you should assess, I am sitting with a group of americans, they are discussing their past drunken en devours, what do I have to share? Most of my friends did coke, lots of coke in their past, they don't drink when they go out they take e and go to raves. How can relate to someone who is detailing how he aqcuired his parents alchohol and got wasted. These kids played football in their youth, my friends would go out and clip bicycles. Hard to relate, you see now? So in other words just the cultural differences and not the prejudiced swill you were spilling earlier?
Sure, I have nothing against them, but it is a different lifestyle
