As much as I'm looking forward to this game, I'm kinda afraid that Bungie is going to come out that the mechanics are heavily Call of Duty-like. I don't want this thread to turn into a FPS battleground, but I just plain don't like CoD, and it'd be a shame if this game came out with perks, killstreaks, iron sights, minuscule health, etc. Of course this is all assuming that this game will be kinda competitive multiplayer oriented (it definitely does seem to be multiplayer oriented though), but my question is this: how much Call of Duty are you willing to tolerate?

I have some faith that Bungie is cooking us up nice, fun, balanced, and original game mechanics, but sometimes I have my doubts. Low health as well as perks with customizable loadouts are both my kryptonite. What do you guys think? Full faith or don't care? Halo 4 kinda put a damper on my soul.

Bungie does not simply make a game heavily CoD-like

I highly doubt Bungie will make anything that is too similar to CoD, or even Halo for that matter. It'll be a shooter, sure, but why would they attempt to compete with such established games?

Not saying Bungie couldn't compete, because as we all know, they certainly can. But since this is a new IP, I would imagine they'd take the safer route and make something completely different.

That's what they've done before.

  • 11.27.2012 11:48 PM PDT

I don't think that's a concern. I doubt Destiny will be about competition, and it may actually only be a shooter in that it's played from a first person PoV (and even that's speculation) and has guns as primary weapons.

From the description, it seems it'll be more akin to, say, Borderlands than an arena shooter. Something with an awesome sense of scale and space like Combat Evolved's levels, but with more emphasis on cooperation and exploration than on tactics and victory. I don't think that's a problem, honestly; I think that's probably the direction they've wanted to go in since Reach.

I hope for what's almost like an RPG. Big space to explore, stuff to find, cooperative objectives, fun, you know?

If it does play anything like CoD...I don't mind, honestly. The art, world, and character design are all miles beyond what CoD provides, and that's what I'm interested it.

I have a 50 in Halo Waypoint!!
All achivement in halo 3, ODST, and halo wars... cept a general

That escalated quickly

Well we will have to wait and see. Bungie has the option to go with something incredibly new and exciting. I cant wait to see what they decided to do with a whole new universe.

Bungie is free of corporate chains (at least the major ones). They have more creative freedom now so I'm willing to give them a chance.

Wake me when the jews are gone.

It all depends on one thing for me. story, as long as the story is good it could be a clone of COD and i would love it.

Absolutely not. But then, I can rest assured that Bungie won't do something like that.

3rd edition. Now with more grunt.

TFS 4 lyfe

"COD like" is such a stupid term. Why should games not add features just because another fps does it too?

I gave 343i a chance with Halo 4, despite it having way too many similarities to CoD, so I will certainly do the same for Bungie.

Stop PMing me if you are group recruiting.

There's a few "CoD features" I think work with shooters as a whole in general, but in the end all that matters is how the features and mechanics work together in the finished product.

But it does seem that "Destiny" will be some sort of MMO, so "loadouts" and whatnot wouldn't surprise me. I have a feeling "Destiny" will have quite a bit of personal customization from your character to it's armaments.

Yea the more I think about it the more it seems like this will be more of a single player experience. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there were gigantic PVP battles on whatever those battlement looking structures are: http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2012/11/71.jp g

How is Halo: Reach CoD-like?

  • 11.28.2012 11:25 PM PDT

Many gave their lives so that we could live on. I intend to honor them by remembering them. Remember Cyborg. Remember John. Remember Noble.

Bungie - all those games they made are still with them.
So, -blam!- yeah!

  • 11.28.2012 11:35 PM PDT

ISU Cyclones!

I have more faith in Bungie that they won't make a CoD ripoff style game.

But then there are people who somehow find Halo: Reach closer to CoD than Halo which is irrational overreaction at best and deep raging nostalgia at worst.

I mean complain about certain character customization being like CoD but that's an industry standard here to stay now and probably it's lasting contribution. Wide customization that effects gameplay without changing the core of the game.

  • 11.28.2012 11:45 PM PDT

You and Me and the Devil makes three.

I wouldn't mind if it was like planet side 2.

PS
No, I do not want to join your clan/group.

Heavily CoD-like? Probably not; I love Bungie, but my distaste for CoD has grown exponentially over the years.

Fortunately, I don't think it'll be an issue. There may be a small handful of CoD-esque features here and there in Destiny, but I doubt it'll be too similar.

Trolls = the most ignorant souls on the internet.

Games need to stop trying to be like CoD. Plain and simple. It is KILLING FPS's. Bad enough Halo 4 has so much CoD -blam!- in it.

If this new Bungie came is like CoD, especially heavily like it.. NO BUY. at all.

  • 11.29.2012 12:37 AM PDT

Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo

Well, I mean based on their current game description, I don't think that this game is in the same category as C.O.D., and so will not take any cues from those games at all. Although frankly, if it did, no I would not buy it because then the game will just be another C.O.D. clone of sorts, and we certainty do not need any more of those.

Not a chance.
Let's just hope they don't try to make this game "more accessible for the average gamer" (dumb it the hell down and make it easy for people who suck).
