16. That's when responsibilities such as driving and working kick in.

I'd say around 14.

When you start going to school.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

I agree with this. My parents gave me a pre-paid phone when I was 16 so that I could call if I had an emergency or had to stay late at work.

If you are alone at any point in the day you should have a phone.

My 8 year old Nephew walks home from school with a couple friends, he has a prepaid phone in case he needs to call his parents/ police for whatever reason.

Yep agreed.

I don't really think there's a set age when you're just magically mature enough to have one. Something like this is a great idea.

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

NOT middle school age.

I had my first brick..er phone when i was about 13 and started staying out later after school. No need for it to be some fancy smartphone either just something that can be relied upon when the time comes.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year

A cell phone with no texting and web capability? probably as soon as they are able to carry it.

A smart phone? 18.

Break down, every single one of you.

I would say when the child enters their freshman year of high school, but it depends on the situation. It the child is alone for extended periods of time and has no other way to contact a family member, then a cell phone may be of use at a younger age.

What drives me crazy is my little cousin. The kid is 9 and he has a facebook account and a cell phone. The phone obviously isn't active, but I hate how kids are trying to "grow up". Act like a kid!

I'd say like 12 but it should be a cheap flip phone like a Nokia. Something that's durable but simple.

Yeah, kids shouldn't pretend that they're grown ups! Normal kids never do that. Ever.

The age must be around 6 ~ 7. This is the age where children become young adults and they need proper equipment that comes with their new responsibilities. Also they have to be able to contact 24/7 and need the most high tech cellphone in order to keep up with their social media drive. It's also around this age, because they need to keep in touch with their boyfriends/girlfriends and spread the word about parties and stuff.

Please do not send me group invites.

Depends.

If a kid's parents are always around and he always has a ride to/from school, etc, he probably doesn't need one until 14 or so.

If he's one of those kids whose parents work all the time and needs rides and such, I see no problem with them having one around 8.

"Wake me...when you need me."

As a parent I would say, depending on the child, around 12-14.

Why would a 9 year old kid need a facebook account?

A regular phone by like 13 or 14.

A smart phone by around 16 or 17.

Bonus: A laptop by around 15 or 16.

Disclaimer: these are just rough estimates and age of maturity varies greatly from person to person and the age when a child is deemed old enough to have something is the parents' decision.
