Subject: Destiny and Bungie on the same website? Or, possible separation?

He's right on top of us! I wonder if he is using the same wind we are using...

At one point in the IGN bit on Destiny info they mention the possibility that Destiny is the actual name of Bungie's next IP, and the possibility that destiny.com, currently password protected, could be the hoste site to the Destiny universe and franchise.

This possibility raises some questions on Bungie.next.

Unlike, say, Blizzard - which has a site for Blizzard and a separate site for each of its games - Bungie.net has also been Bungie's main site for it's current game and past games. It helps that Bungie has been pretty much a one-game-at-a-time company, so they could get away with it.

But Destiny seems huge. Bigger than halo in in-game universe, community, franchise, and potential expanded universe.

Do we really want (we are now thinking of post Destiny release) both all of Bungie and all of Destiny on one site?

tl;dr

Would you be ok having Bungie.net (perhaps a site for Bungie lore, past games, bungie community, a general Destiny forum, and of course the flood) and Destiny.com (perhaps a game to track and maintain all in game material, faction material and forums, and destiny in-game community) as separate sites?

What are your thoughts on the possibility?

One does not choose a destiny, his destiny is bestowed, shaped and formed, from the soul.

No separation, it's not their style.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

May god have mercy on the soul who owns Destiny.com as /v/ trues to infiltrate it, it is only a matter of time.

it'd be crap if they did that. They could create a section for forums and have another section devoted to destiny stuff? A bit like halo waypoint except better?

Not really. There's always been a Halo3.com, a HaloReach.com, etc. for each of Bungie's games. Destiny.com does not belong to Bungie, but I'm totally okay with having two websites as we have had in the past.

Well, it doesn't take much.

My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.
The apathetic force us to persevere, with their backwards priorities.

Why would they ever want two sites? That would be confusing to new members, I think.

halo3.com and haloreach.com were operated internally by Bungie?

I'm not sure, but I would hazard to guess that they were Microsoft's websites as they are now apparently redirect to Halo Waypoint. I trust Bungie enough to not force us to go to different websites to look at stats and forums, I imagine they'll keep everything centralized on Bungie.net.

Whether there will be an official website for Destiny either under the control of Activision or Bungie that is completely seperate from Bungie.net is both up in the air and beyond my interest.

  • 11.28.2012 1:16 PM PDT

I doubt that would happen, Bungie.net is Bungie's home where they store all of their games.

What will happen is they will have Destiny, etc redirect to Bungie.net.

I don't see that happening.

I personally never visted those websites, I always stuck here in the Bungie forums.

Same for me more or less. I recall the Halo 3 one hosting the Halo 3 Believe Diorama, as well as having images of all the enemies and weapons in the game.

Well said if it happen this is the only solution for not split the community. Maybe 2 website all data will stay on B.net and Destiny.com would be redirected in b.net forums.

According to their contract with Activision, they do.

@Vinyl_Hb

The icon for the site is a heart, I feel like bungie would have made it the destiny logo if it were related...

Its more than likely a dating site in development

That's not Bungie's website. There's apparently a way of looking up who owns a particular website, and it's some random dude's domain. It isn't stopping a majority of /v/ from trying to hack into it though.
