Never bought a lottery ticket ever.

I had a grasp of probability before I ever was able to purchase one, and so, never did.

Well for those of us with enough money to waste a few bucks it's a worthwhile shot.

If I win, awesome. If not, rats. Guess I'll need to visit an ATM that much sooner.
That's why people call it the Stupid Tax. You might as well just throw $10 on the ground.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

It's a voluntary tax. Money basically given to the government in the unlikely hope that you'll get a huge return on the investment.

If I throw $10 on the ground there is no chance I'll win $500 million.

You're significantly more likely to be struck by lightning.

It's essentially the same chance that if you were to throw the $10 on the ground that someone would rush to pick it up, knock you over and you were to then sue them for $500 million in damages and win.

Virtually the SAME odds.

K

So again, there is no risk to those of us who can spare a few dollars. My livelihood isn't going to be compromised by spending $10 on the chance at millions.

I'd like you to run me through the math you used to calculate that event having similar odds.

Neither is mine. I'd rather take that $10 and buy a few drinks at the bar, though. There's a 100% chance I'll enjoy a few drinks, not 1 in 175 million.

  • 11.28.2012 3:28 PM PDT

I guess I'm part of the 1% that can afford to buy a lottery ticket, and go to the bar.

I didn't realize life was so good.

There is an equal chance that I will enjoy the possibility of winning some lotto money. :-)

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I'm legally not allowed to, plus thinking about all the people who will lie and steal and kill for your money is a bit unsettling, even if you could help a lot of people with around $300 million you actually get.

On the Left

Godshatter: I can go all the way with someone without being attracted to them.
CamCamm: How does that work?
Godshatter: I'm easily aroused by anything that moves. It's a curse.
Brain says 'No, that's ugly', body says 'ugly is fine with me'.

You make hundreds of millions of dollars every year? I find that difficult to believe.

I don't think that's what it takes to qualify.

However I must be part of it if I can afford to do both.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

No but my dad and some of his coworkers did and they're going to split it 8 ways if they win.

I think you vastly underestimate the amount of money "The 1%" have.

If you have $20 in your pocket, you can buy a few powerball tickets and a few brews. Just because you can doesn't mean you're rich.

Even if you are on the "low" end of "the 1%", you're still banking over 7 figures. I doubt you're wasting your time here if you're raking in millions.
