I just wanna say, this is not what Christmas is based on.

In this present day and age in 1st world countries, yes it is. It's about having a good time, decorating your home with extravagant stuff, stuffing your face with meat and taking/giving presents.

That is your childish version of Christmas please don't like that is everyone's Christmas.

lol brother, the main reason people love and enjoy christmas is for the reasons I gave. If these reasons never existed christmas would never be the hugely popular phenomenon that it is.

As for me being childish, why not? Even my grandmother lights up as if she was 10 years old during christmas.

Life is like a clogged toilet. It's full of crap until you do something about it.

Well, religious reasons.

I'm not discussing religion. Don't bring that up.

Screw it, I'm giving all my muslim friends something. Any suggestions?

err...what?

Maybe they aren't Christian? Big shocker, but the majority of the world does not celebrate the birth of your lord and savior. Big shocker I know.

Most non-Christians celebrate Christmas. It's not just a Christian holiday.
What??

Are you serious?

I'm not talking about a holiday centered around the winter solstice. I mean Christmas. You know, the one with "Christ" in the name...
As many have said, it started as a Pagan holliday.

Regardless of what religion it started from, however, it has evolved into a general day of celebrating goodwill toward man.

For someone that thinks they know a lot about the meaning of Christmas you don't know much about the history of it if you think the only reason it is popular is due to presents. As for being childish it is fine to enjoy Christmas for presents, but you are acting like it is the only important when that is far from true. That is why I am calling you childish.

Alright then. Suit yourself. Hopefully you will understand someday what Christmas truly is.

The irony is up until the age of 7 I went to church during christmas and I observed almost all things religious about christmas.

Now its about kicking back, having a good time with family and friends, tearing up that wrapping paper, stuffing that christmas dinner, and forgetting about the troubles of the world.

Atheists came to my house and said my christmas decorations was some how offensive to them...
I am extremely doubtful that that ever happened.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

As a Buddhist, I was to taught to stand by a philosophy that I can celebrate other religious holidays as long as it brings family and friends together.

Christmas isnt an excuse to earn materialistic things, its a way to enjoy time with family and friends and give back.

In this day and age, yes. The reasons I provided are why christmas rose above the mountains upon mountains of other religious holidays and still grows more popular to this day in our secular society.

And as I said, just because it began as a Christian holiday doesn't mean its only celebrating Christian ideals.

By definition, it is the celebration of Jesus' birth.

Even if that date was manipulated to align with a pagan holiday, the Christ in Christmas makes it a Christian holiday.

Not everyone is Christian, therefor not everyone will celebrate it.

I seriously doubt that due to the percentage of people that are Christian. As for it becoming more popular I imagine that is due more so to people having a greater awareness nowadays than in the past. Though I do agree presents helped, but it shouldn't be the main reason to celebrate Christmas which is what you are essentially saying it is.
