Dear friends!

I live in Wellington, New Zealand (though I'm english) and I have literally just got home from watching the crew viewing of The Hobbit at the Embassy cinema where it premiered last night.

I was lucky enough to go as a +1 of one of the guys on the crew.

Conclusion; It was really really good.

If you have any questions fire away and I will try to answer as best as I can. Yes it's based on the book but I won't answer spoiler questions.

COME AT ME BRO.

Every post whining about the weekly update delays it by 5 minutes.

does it stay true in tone to the book or is it much darker in general?

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

Is Riddles in the dark included in that part?

Its one of my favorite parts in any LOTR book.

Amazingly it appears to do both. There are some real nice nods to the books tone, particularly the introduction of the dwarves, but with heavy (and subtle) hints to the return of Sauron.

I am still just thinking it all through, but I am surprised that Jackson has managed to find this balance.

Are there plenty of good tunes like in the animated one?

  • 11.28.2012 5:18 PM PDT

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

Lucky you my far-feathered friend.
I'm excited to see it.
I get an early showing of it (Minnesota/US) due to having a Hope Kid. Needed 2 open heart surgeries and a lung placation. As well as needing to be put on ECHMO/life support. All of which for the first 3 months.

ANYWAY! That's another story. He's pretty much better. Trached and talking/crawling but rather would walk.

Lol ok sorryagain, got off topic.

Yes it is in there. Gollum is glorious, terrifying and tragic.

When it comes to visuals, does it have the same realistic look of The Lord of the Rings or does it have a unique look and style?

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

Was it in 3D?

Was it awesome?

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

Where does it end in relation to the book?

Probably a little bit. There are still some pretty terrifying bits that will scare the -blam!- out of kids though.

Also some hilarious horror parts.

Did you see it in 3D 48fps? And if you did, did it look weird?

How much humor is there in this compared to LotR? The previews made it look like it has way too much childish humor (and yes, I know it's intended to be a children's book, but still...).

Gamertag - Rdog 11

Call me Rdog, not RdOG or RdOG1507. I made that username when I thought it was cool to use alternating capital and lowercase letters...

1. Does it have a lot of action like the Lord of the Rings movies?

2. I can tell by the commercials that they try to incorporate some humor into the movie. Do they try to be funny too much? Is it stupid at times?

3. How long is it?

I sound like a reporter

1. Yes there is a lot of action. Some really great pieces in there. Lot of fighting..... and other.... things.

2. There is some humor yes, but no more than in the original LotR. Think of the LotR hobbits, it doesn't get overly silly.

3. It was about 3 hours long

Nope Ian McKellen didn't turn up for the premiere. I did say hello to Andy Serkis who was at the local veg market last Sunday though, real nice guy.

If you could put the LoTR trilogy on a scale from favorite to least favorite, where would The Hobbit fit on it?

  • 11.28.2012 8:07 PM PDT

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

You... you... were one of the crew?

As a movie (I'm guessing it covers the first half, durr) how much from the book managed to make it in?

No I wasn't on the crew, I just know a bunch of guys who worked on the film and at WETA. Someone graciously offered me his +1 so I went along to the viewing this morning.

It covers about a third of the book as The Hobbit is a trilogy. It's going to be massive.
