China has close to 2 billion and they're below India.

China doesn't allow their people access to such a capitalist site.

Interesting. I expected it to be ranked higher, but it looks fairly accurate.

Also relevant.

Actually China's population is estimated to have 1.35 billion people. You're a little off by ~600,000,000.

Is it weird that I'm honestly surprised to see that dying social networking site myspace has more traffic than Bungie.net?

It would be interesting to know if those stats take into account bots, spiders, zombies, and crawlers.

spiders, zombies, and crawlers.
What's the difference?

  • 11.29.2012 1:17 AM PDT

You didn't include bots, but I'll explain my reasons anyway.

- While most people would associate a bot with nefarious activities like denial of service attacks, it's really just a generic piece of software that performs actions for or on behalf of someone of something else (pretty analogous to software agents, IMO). On the web, this could be something like an RSS aggregator, which could certainly be used on bungie.net

- Zombie is often used to describe compromised systems which may take part in [distributed] denial of service attacks. Given that that is certainly possible (and might be happening right now, just on such a small, unnoticeable scale), it would be nice to be able to differentiate between legitimate requests and zombies' (though that's probably difficult).

- AFAIK, there's no difference between spiders and crawlers other than what someone might want to call it. Google calls theirs the "Googlebot".

Neat. I was always under the impression that there wasn't such a large, noticeable difference between the H3 and HR users. Guess I was wrong.

If you look at HaloWaypoint's stats you'll see that Bungie is higher ranked.

I live in China, yet I'm on here? Anyways the only significant blocked sites are Facebook and Youtube, but I use a VPN to get onto those. So yeah.

I have a feeling a lot of that is made up of accounts that were made to advertise companies. I've been noticing a lot of them lately.

I'd wager that the Indian traffic is the result of website crawling.

On a similar note, according to Netcraft, Bungie changed their front facing architecture from a F5 Big-IP (load balancer) to Linux a couple of weeks ago. This makes me wonder if they'll start migrating away from Windows now that they're no longer beholden to M$.
