America's not even there?

Cmon, we're not that bad...

As someone who went to both American and Canadian public school I can attest to the curriculum being way behind.

I came into this thread thinking Sweden. Finland is totally what I meant.
Not really surprising, since Northern Europe is arguably the best place in the world to live.

I'm surprised that France isn't up there. All of their education is 100% free, even all the way up to a doctorate.

When you have people arguing that peanut butter is evidence that Evolution is false, you stop being surprised.

What's funny is that the US spends the most in education yet hasn't even reached top 10...

The country with the best drivers is also... Finland.

ooga booga boooh

Canadian here, currently working in the education system.

Our countries does not deserve to be in the top 10. Top 20, not 10. We have quite a long, long way to go. Even the UN scolded us for our piss poor performance educating African-Canadian and First Nation Children.

>Useless, crap tier movies in class all the time
>Babyfied kids everywhere
>Completely poor curriculum with useless content

Canada's is good, but we could be a lot better.

False. We're awful.

This. Our education system sucks. You wonder why you see drop outs and druggies everywhere. Without a proper education, your future well in my perspective is pretty bad.

I wish I went to school there... to get an education that I'm proud of. To actually be challenged in school.

Allons-y!

I'm a bit depressed that I'm not receiving adequate education.

Yeah it is really funny . I am not surprised considering how many dumb arguments I hear going on in my school. I am at least trying to learn how quadratics , most of psychology , and pretty much everything else I am offered for my education. I get A's most of the time and a few B's , but I do it with also trying to understand the material not just enough to get the good grade. If only I didn't have high anxiety problems with work I would happily take the AP classes.

Canada is in the top 10?

THAT surprises me.

I expected Finland at #1.

The top five countries are also the most depressed. Funny how that works.

Finland is one of the happiest based on many different "world happiness" lists from multiple sources.

Singapore, what? I thought they were a 3rd world country? What decade have I been living in!

Singapore and New Zealand surprise me, I know nothing about them.

The U.K also surprised me, but then I remembered that best education =/= country with most educated people.

Lol

Not really surprised at how South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore came in the top five since all of those have high-performing Asian education systems. One thing I've noted is how Finland's education system does not select, track or stream students during their education(according to Wikipedia). It's a huge difference from the highly competitive and stressful environments students are exposed to in the other Asian countries. For example, in Singapore, Primary 2 students(8 years old) have to take an examination at the end of the year that will stream them into different classes based on how good their grades are. I hear that the teaching environment in Hong Kong is very competitive as well, with students striving to get into the top schools, even if they are just preschools. Finland's education seems to provide for a more stress-free learning environment, perhaps helping to encourage learning.

Here's a BBC article on the education thing, by the way.
