Subject: Guitar Chords and Alternate Picking

So, does anyone have any websites, tips, videos, etc. that could help me with these things when playing guitar. I try to do the slowest of soloing, and I can barely alternate pick because I have gotten way too used to down picking. Also, does anyone know a good place where I could find guitar chords, I am a strictly metal person and have only worked on the techniques used in metal. So basically I know about two chords, and I have been playing for a year and a couple of months. Any other useful techniques would be appreciated.

I'm not so good with advice...Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

I always keep this for reference. Just find a nice easy song thats new, and work at it. Eventually, you'll get more and more comfortable working the fretboard and can move on to a more advanced song. A good excersize i used to use is the intro to Sweet Child O' Mine. Its a good warm up and useful practice. Tabs.

I can play some Metallica stuff like Seek and Destroy and Master of Puppets. Fade to black. But I'm not sure if you have heard of Trivium. From them I can play the Deceived, Drowned and Torn Asunder, Like Light to the Flies, Pull Harder.

There are a lot of Guns N Roses songs that play similar to those. Id start with Welcome to the Jungle, Night Train, and Mr. Brownstone.

Did you know that 93% of all statistics on the internet are made up on the spot, and that 68% of readers believe them?

A good pattern to practice is to skip a string while picking all the strings downward and likewise while comin back up. So for example instead of just picking down the strings from lowest to highest (6,5,4,3,2,1), try 6,4,5,2,3,1 and then back up- 1,3,2,5,4,6. But alternate each pick so that in the string you skip over you land on it with you normal direction. It would look like down, up, down, up, down, up. And in reverse for the opposite. Hope that made sense...
