I'm not discriminatory. I don't like any of you.

Hey OP, have you ever considered he was overweight because of his disability? No?

And to the guy saying he should have provided a "medical certificate"...no...people with disabilities don't need to carry documentation around just to validate public concessions like being given a seat.

Either take that statement back or agree that all fat people can use disability seating whenever they feel like it, despite the vast majority of them not having a medical reason for their bulk and simply being really lazy and taking no care of their bodies. Your choice.

Yes, clearly those are the only two options. If that's the case, then I choose to give up my seat. I'd give up my seat if anyone asked. I take public transit daily and I almost always stand because things like seats on a bus are such a trivial issue. There is no way for OP to know if the man actually had a disability, but it is remarkably uncommon for someone to lie directly to another person's face like that, and he should've just been a gentleman and given it up; instead, he got kicked off. Clearly there was a correct decision here.

By the way, obesity is considered a disability by the government. But please, continue to look down on people because of their weight. That's much better than just being a nice person.

Damn right I'll look down on anybody who's so disgustingly lazy they can't resist shoving their fat face with food and then expect to get preferential treatment.

Oh, and LAWL @ you saying it's uncommon to lie about having a disability. Do you actually live on this planet?

While I disagree with the attitude, I agree with the basis of the point.

MOST obese people are obese through their lifestyle choices. As such, my lifestyle choice is not to give them my seat if I'm there. Obesity because you eat too much isn't a disability, no matter what governments say. Do you believe everything your government tells you?

There are a few people who have genuine disorders, fine. Pregnant women are pregnant (and a whole can of worms in itself, that one) and yes, giving up my seat makes sense and I do so without fail. Same for OAPs. But you REALLY like KFC/McDonalds? No, you can stand.

You know most people that are fat are fat because their parents were fat and the gene was just passed on.
Okay..

If your parents were overweight and you have a low metabolism, you have a huge chance of being overweight due to the lifestyle that they had and you were raised around. That does NOT mean that you HAVE to be overweight. It just means you have to work harder than some to maintain a healthy weight and diet.

Anyway, the bus driver kicked you off the bus rather than just telling you to move?

  • 11.29.2012 6:54 AM PDT

It gets better

Didn't you hear OP? Apparently being fat is genetic, but -blam!- orientation is a choice.

Being fat is not a disability, it is a choice.

I would have done the same thing as the OP did.

Did anyone see the South Park episode about Cartman finally admitting to being fat? - only to receive the benefits of being "disabled"? The OP's event made me think of this episode.

RIP Logan ~B.B.

So, he could have had an actual disability, but you just assumed he didn't based on nothing? By that logic I might as well assume you are a skinhead just because you are Australian and that has been catching on down there.

That's not how it works.

if you're 'predisposed' to being fat, the you should predispose yourself to some exercise.

I laughed hard at this! and I agree. If you 'predisposed' to being fat, then you should recognize this and go exercise.

Amen, Brah.

I still don't see how the bus driver kicked you off the bus. Did you argue with the bus driver telling him that you were not willing to move because you didn't think the "fat man" had a disability?

  • 11.29.2012 7:18 AM PDT

Protip: Don't sit in the disability section at the front of the bus unless there is no other room on the bus to sit. It's an easy way to avoid these sorts of social encounters if you have a fundamental problem with showing kindness to others (or following the bus's published rules).

If you weren't so damn lazy, this wouldn't of happened, both because you would have had the stamina to walk farther than the first couple of seats before plopping your ass down, and because you would have found the energy to get up and move your sorry ass.

I don't know how buses are designed in Australia, but here in Washington, the Disability seating is only six seats out of the entire 30+ seat bus. There's nothing wrong with setting aside a fifth of the seats for the elderly, people with disabilities, and yes, even fat people. It's not like the entire bus is fair game.

Oh, put me in your position, OP. I would have said a helluva lot more than just "no!" That fat -blam!- doesn't deserve the seat because he aught to not eat so much, so that way he doesn't have to bother others by asking them. If you don't give those fat mongeloids something to chew on, mentally, besides their pathetic food addiction, they'll keep on feeling entitled. If it was me in your position, OP, I would have told him the fact that he's a pathetic fat -blam!-, and he cannot have my seat.

  • 11.29.2012 7:44 AM PDT

Stop arguing over imaginary -blam!-. May as well argue over Santa Claus. There will never be proof that there is/was a god - and before people start saying "HERP DERP PROVE THERE WASN'T ONE ROFLOLOL" well, you are the people who made it up in the first place so we know there isn't one

Otherwise I agree with you. He should have been walking to lose some fat.

  • 11.29.2012 8:07 AM PDT

How do you know what his condition was? What if being obese is a side effect of whatever he has?

You don't get to pick and choose what is and what isn't a disability. If someone has trouble standing, you don't get to just choose whether or not to let them access disability seating. They get it whether or not you're so high and mighty you think that your judgements based on looks alone are right.

You deserved to be kicked off the bus, and you deserve to be banned from riding the bus.
