Gravity weakens the body, and the body atrophies naturally over time, it's been proven. Gravity doesn't make you fat. Lack of exercise and a healthy lifestyle makes you fat. I will not pity someone who doesn't take care of their body.

No one gives a flying -blam!- about your pity. How you feel is irrelevant entirely.

It's that at the time, one person needs the seat more than the other person.

One of the leading causes of paralysis in children is diving into shallow water. If, for example, you overheard a guy in a wheelchair had done exactly that, would you refuse to give him your seat because he "didn't use good judgement"? What about someone who was paralyzed because he was riding a bike without a helmet? A veteran disabled by an IED? Well, he should have been a bit faster, now shouldn't he have?

Like I said, are we going to just assume the worst about everyone and then act accordingly? Why are we singling out one group here?

Why would you give a guy in a wheelchair a seat is what I'm wondering..

You have to stand so that your seat can be folded up and his wheelchair locked into position where you were seated.

A need can simply be identified. Does someone need the seat on the bus more than me?

What he "needs" is a walk. He shouldnt be taking the bus and should be walking to wherever he needs to go. And shouldn't order three quarter pounders with fries for lunch every day. Then fatty might be able to sit down in a single seat instead of taking up two.

You don't know what condition caused their obesity

Yes he does.

It's called eating too much and not exercising.

What about a condition that requires you to take steroids (which cause weight gain) and makes exercise dangerous?

What if that person normally does take care of their body, and plans to continue to do so as soon as they are healthy enough to?

Medical professionals need years of training and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of education for a reason. It's because medical conditions are tricky things than can't be judged with a single sentence.

In short, no you don't know what caused someone's obesity. And for purposes of who uses facilities designed for people with disabilities, it doesn't matter at all.

It's a bus policy for those seats to be reserved for those who need them, and who needs them isn't your call, it's the bus drivers call. That fat person was just taking advantage of an existing policy, it's nothing personal.
What are you talking about?

All seats, or are there special ones for disabled people?

Either way, fat isn't a disability. It's a choice.

Needing the seat (an inability to stand on a swaying bus) is a need, not a choice and not a disability.

The signs on the bus and on trains (I can't believe that we have to go into this sort of basic social skills) say "please offer your seats to those with a greater need for them".

If you want to get really into the hair-splitting, signs like that are conditional on the bus/trains obligation to give you transport. The seats are there, offered for the most needy.

If someone needs the seat, asks the driver/train attendant, and they concur, the person seated (with less of a need than the one who actually does need the seat) is the one who is being unreasonable, uncivil, disruptive and as a result, if off of the bus/train and wondering how their rights and needs were "so disregarded".

how hard was it for you to start lifting bro? I bet it was all so easy. Obese people just need to stop eating and they'll magically become fit people in the space of a week, amirite?

I don't know how things work in Australia, but here in Washington State there are six seats in the front of the bus which are reserved for people who need them. You can sit there, but if the bus driver asks you to move to accomidate someone, you are supposed to comply, regardless of whether or not you feel they need / deserve the seat.

I'm simply assuming the same goes for Australia. The OP seems to have run off, so there's no way to know.

Either way, fat isn't a disability. It's a choice. Doesn't matter, it's up to the bus service to choose how they run their buisness, and who they choose to accomidate.

It's called eating right, mild exercise and self control. Yeah it's pretty damn easy. Of course, fat people will say, "I tried EVERYTHING" which means, they tried a quarter mile walk for about two days and gave up because they were sweating the Niagara falls.

On the subject of social skills was it right for the man to demand the seat in such a rude manner? If someone walks up to and demands something, if they need it for some reason, make them instantly exempted from basic social etiquette?

The issue here isn't that the man was fat, fair enough some people are fat and he might of tumbled into someone on a corner. Yet does that justify him not extending the courtesy to someone who is willing to give up something they gained for his gain?

If the man had kindly asked to sit down because he struggles standing, then I'm certain most would comply, in a sense it's a form of charity- giving something to those that need it. So if a charity demands you pay them would you? Or would you prefer to avoid doing so in how they showed no respect for you, so why should you extend respect to them?

Do you watch tv?

The Biggest Loser takes three months just to start on the path to losing weight.

You think the obese can just magically shed the kilos, when there are well documented cases of obese people taking months to lose weight even when they're being aided by personal trainers and strict dieting?

Don't be so -blam!- naive.

lol autocorrect made me bypass the filter.

Dont let yourself get that fat in the first place.

Ive seen the biggest loser. And those people are like 500 pounds.

You'd think after you are 300 and look like a sloppy mess, that youd start doing something.

A half hour at the gym everyday is NOT difficult.

Don't act like breaking lifelong habits is so easy to begin with, either.

Ever tried to stop chewing your finger nails (or whatever, insert bad habit here)? Its hard to break habits, especially ones that make your body feel so good. Its pretty much an addiction.

When the hell did I ever say it doesn't take a long time -blam!-? I didn't. I said it's easy to lose weight. I didn't say go out and do it in a week. It takes time, no -blam!-. However, as I have already stated multiple times, fat people don't want to take the time to eat healthy or exercise; which neither is a hard thing to do at all with a little self control.

Obese people usually don't have self-control. Have you thought of that?

Obese people suddenly growing self-control would be as unlikely as the Flood becoming caring and compassionate people.
