How and why is that so hard for anyone to do in their head? Why wouldn't you? Is the idea of "I got it first" and some sort of rudimentary chimp territorialism that strong in your blood that you can't understand the seats are there for the people who need them more than someone else?

But Recon, we have to make sure that people know better than to be fat in public! They're not allowed to tell racial minorities to stand to promote their inflated sense of self righteousness anymore. Who are they supposed to feel better than now?

What, are they just supposed to give a guy a seat because he needs it or something?

Obese people are a burden on society, in many ways. I probably would have given up the seat, but it would still have annoyed me. Obese people should take the initiative to try to be less of a burden, and gain a little respect for themselves. Instead, many just want to be catered to and think they should be catered to. You should have just given him the seat OP. Let him live gluttonously and die early, hopefully without putting too much strain on the health care system.

It is.

People like you seem to have the goal of making life harder for everyone you meet, though.

Why should I feel bad for them?

Why should I have to give up my seat (making my life harder) just because tubs couldnt go to the gym?

Obese people usually don't have self-control. Have you thought of that?

Obese people suddenly growing self-control would be as unlikely as the Flood becoming caring and compassionate people.

Then they have no excuse and deserve no sympathy.

Good job refuting all of the terrible points you were just trying to make as well.

Don't LOL if you aren't L'inOL.

Halo: Reach
Halo 3
Halo ODST

Because it's a nice thing to do. I have minor problems with my feet and i'd still give up my seat for someone.

Why should you feel bad for the wounded soldier? He signed up for it.

Why should you feel bad for the woman who had everything taken from her by her cheating husband? She married him.

Why should you feel bad for the girl who got kidnapped and raped after posting lewd pics to her friends? She posted the lewd pics.

Why should you feel bad for the kid who committed suicide in high school after being bullied by the jocks? He brought it on himself by being a nerds little ponce.

Why should you feel bad for anyone? Why would anyone feel bad for you?

Them having no self control is not my problem. Having no self control does not warrant special privileges.

lol terrible examples.

But for the record. I would feel sorry for the wounded soldier. but not the other 2.

But instead of asking more questions to me. How about you provide some answers.

Is it really that hard to go to the gym? I mean I work 2 jobs, am a full time student, and expecting a child with my wife. yet I still go to the gym.

So why should I feel sorry for a loser fat guy who is too lazy to even get in shape?

Exactly.

Murderers have no self control. Should I feel bad for them?

The only people who deserve no sympathy are the ones who don't give any out.

At the very least you help them lose weight by not giving them a hard time about it.

But there's no love out there for strangers, is there? Even when you meet them face to face.

Because I need it more than them.

I agree. If the guy could get in shape and not take up 2 seats, then I'd be able to sit next to him and have a nice conversation.

Yeah? You shouldn't excuse a murderer but that doesn't give you an excuse to be cruel.

I would help anyone that actually asked for it and needed it. That didn't just blame it on, "Oh i have a disease! Oh I was born with it! I didn't get this disease from eating like a fat cow my entire life!" If they didn't make excuses, didn't find anything in the world to blame besides their terrible, lazy, self inflicted choices, then I would be more than happy to help them out.

So not giving up my seat to a fat middle aged MAN, is cruel now?

Are you kidding me? ITS A MAN, HES AN ADULT. And he cant even take care of himself. Thats embarrassing.

This. I'd take you out for a dinner at your favorite restaurant.

Gravity weakens the body, and the body atrophies naturally over time, it's been proven. Gravity doesn't make you fat. Lack of exercise and a healthy lifestyle makes you fat. I will not pity someone who doesn't take care of their body.

No one gives a flying -blam!- about your pity. How you feel is irrelevant entirely.

It's that at the time, one person needs the seat more than the other person.

One of the leading causes of paralysis in children is diving into shallow water. If, for example, you overheard a guy in a wheelchair had done exactly that, would you refuse to give him your seat because he "didn't use good judgement"? What about someone who was paralyzed because he was riding a bike without a helmet? A veteran disabled by an IED? Well, he should have been a bit faster, now shouldn't he have?

Like I said, are we going to just assume the worst about everyone and then act accordingly? Why are we singling out one group here?

For the the men in wheelchair, or the soldier, of course I would. Those are completely different circumstances. The former is an unfortunate accident, and accidents do happen. The latter happens in war time, and didn't happen due to an unhealthy lifestyle. These are completely different factors and scenarios, and are irrelevant.

My point is that it would have been entirely different if the conversation went like this:

OP: *sitting, minding his own business*
Fat Guy: Excuse me, young man. I was wondering if you'd be willing to let me have a seat. I know you have no obligation, but it's just tough for me to stand for long periods of time. I would really appreciate it.
OP: I suppose.
FG: Thank you. I really appreciate it.

Then go ahead and treat people like -blam!-, because you're allowed to because you're so fit and healthy and superior.

Stand in doorways. Take money from hobos. Dance around old men.

Those people haven't taken care of themselves, which gives you an excuse to disrespect them!

TBH, I can see where the OP is coming from.

When I was at Universal Studios a few years ago, I went on the Back to the Future ride. Unfortunately, I wound up sitting next to some fat lady who was so obese that the safety bar was unable to lock.

Because of her, half of the first row was bouncing all over the place during the ride.

I'm just glad it wasn't a roller coaster.

  • 11.29.2012 10:30 AM PDT

There is a certain point of tolerance that should never be reached.

I'm 265 pounds. I've got a gut, but I'm also pretty strong. Burly comes to mind.

If you are too fat to stand on a bus for an hour, you need to walk your fat ass around the block a few times a day.

My legs are like tree trunks.

Yes, I am overweight, but I'm not a lazy -blam!- fat sweaty -blam!- who thinks I have a "Disability".
