Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.
The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.
I love the design direction they're taking, but the art direction used to show it with, the concept art style, is generic and boring. It has been done to death in the concept art world, and I've never been a fan of that style. But it sells and usually impresses the masses, so I get why they're using it.
Artwork and the final product can be of the same style, but they most definitely don't have to.
Luckily, it's a style that almost never translates into the final game, unless the game also has the same art style/filter and doesn't aim towards being realistic, like Guild Wars 2 for instance, so it hasn't discouraged me from the actual game at all. I don't think the graphics/engine will aim to forward such an art direction. I hope it won't anyway, prefer the kind of graphics that Halo 3 and Reach had (albeit they were a bit different from one another), I'm not tired of it at all.
