The use of the word "casual" as a derogatory term is stupid.
This.
The use of "casual" as a negative makes no sense, 1) because if someone plays the multiplayer regularly they're not particularly casual, and 2) because people like me are by necessity casual gamers (between university studies and other responsibilities i have little time for video games, but does that mean my opinion is invalid?)
I've been a Halo fan since the beginning and yes, Halo 4 was a different approach, but the reason Bungie stopped making Halo games was because they felt they'd come far enough with it. They recognised they'd have to irreversibly change the game to suit the irreversibly changed landscape that is games in 2012, and decided a fresh IP was the best option.
So yes, 343i could are arguably corrupted by casuals, but casual gamers are a huge source of revenue now (not to mention normal people with differing opinions), and to ignore their wants would be madness - bearing in mind that 343i has been set up by PROFIT DRIVEN CORPORATION MICROSOFT to INCREASE AND GUARANTEE REVENUE from their HALO FRANCHISE.)
Yes, it sucks, but that's capitalism.
