Subject: I am a casual... SO WHAT??

90% of all players are casuals. I play to win with a maximum of 2,5 hours a day. I always go for objective, but I respect other players. I play also for fun, because thats what gaming is about.

Both here and on the 343 forums there are a couple of threads considering "casuals" and "competative" players. According to those threads, being a casual is a bad thing.
Now, my question is, why is it bad to be a casual???
I play for the fun, but I also play to win. I am no MLG player, but I might say that I am pretty good. Does this make me a casual, a competative or a normal player? Are you a casual? Why is being casual a bad thing???

Yes, I know my username is the 330th sequel to a terrible movie. You don't have to keep telling me.

If you play for fun like I do, you're a casual.

There are various games in which the easiest mode is called 'Casual'.

Work it out.

Butt ugly ape” remarked Sergeant Johnson always making fun out of the situation even though he had been hit by a spiker round in the arm. He mustered up the strength to continue and the team moved on. The Arbiter informed him that the next room held The Prophet of Truth and this was the final room before extraction. Jun proposed that he takes a shot from a distance the prophet and they all head back to the ship bay for extraction. The team agreed on this and breached the last door…

But than... Jeez, 90% of all gamers are casuals. Why all the hate?

Fair play

A casual player is someone that doesn't play with an honor code IMO.

It's the kind of player that either:

- Doesn't want to get better in a game;

- Doesn't want the most competitive settings;

- Doesn't respect his opponent by using cheap tactics;

- Doesn't provide factual feedback to the developer.

These are tbe ¨motivations¨ from the top of my head.

The Flood definition of casual:

Stupid retarded asses who are killing the video game industry.

Real definition of casual:

People who have fun playing video games.

I agree, as a strict competitive gamer.

A real gamer shouldn't define himself using such generalized labels. The world is not black and white.

And shame on everyone in this thread who are saying nonsense like "You're a casual if you don't scream obscenities into your microphone while you play and constantly check your stats to self validate the thousands of hours you've spend on this game while you're playing". You people are no better than the competitive gamers who use the word casual as an insult.

I'm pretty sure everyone plays for fun. Fun is subjective.

Country: United States.
State: Pennsylvania.
County: Warren.
I graduated from high school on June-11-2011. I'm 19 right now. I'm turning 20 in December. I like playing video games, and board games. I like reading Sci-Fi, and World War II novels, and what not.

"There is nothing better in the world than being better at a video game than someone else....oh wait"

To me a "casual" is a person that plays a video game for short periods of time. They don't care to commit themselves to a game which requires sometime to be put into it. They don't care for complicated things in games.

Let's look at The Elder Scrolls. In Oblivion they dumbed that game down and in Skyrim they did it even further. They made the games to target a wider audience which is the "casual" crowd. Unfortunately the people that like to get a challenge out of the games are screwed over. The people that play on consoles are even screwed harder because of it.

It's the kind of player that either:

- Doesn't want to get better in a game; I do want to get better

- Doesn't want the most competitive settings; please explain

- Doesn't respect his opponent by using cheap tactics; what are "cheap tactics"

- Doesn't provide factual feedback to the developer. I have done this...

These are tbe ¨motivations¨ from the top of my head.

According to these things i am no casual, but according to the rest I am...

Btw, your thread: 343 forums corrupted by casuals is not true having these criteria. Those forums are corrupted by haters, compliners and angry competatives... Not casuals

Funny, but you would get crushed with that mentality. Having some kind of honor in a video game is just stupid/naive. If anything respect is used by casuals more than competitive players.

160 hours and counting, doing fine thanks.

Compared to its predecessors that is a pathetic amount of time.
