Subject: Who here has been under general anesthesia?

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

Who here has been under general anesthesia? I go in for another surgery in about an hour, and I'll be put under again. I hated it last time, and I hate it this time.

For those who have been, how do you deal with it?

(I will ignore any personal questions, this thread is about coping with being put under general anesthesia)

I've been put under once to have the bones in my arm put back in place. It wasn't anything for me to be concerned about so I didn't worry at all.

I was after trying to fly and ended up breaking my leg.

Also I dunno is I was high as a kite the whole stay in the hospital.

I've been put under GA 7 times.

It hasnt't been that bad for me. Messes with my internal system - things I don't care to elaborate on. It also makes my hair fall out, not to the point of being bald or anything, but I do always notice more hair loss.

That's right. I just dropped some AOL IM protocol.

I've done it twice. Once for wisdom teeth, once for a colonoscopy.
What's not to like? It's an insta-nap.

It's more common for people to have a hard time coming out of it.

I absolutely hate it.
Getting put "under" is one of the scariest things I have ever had to experience in life. A lot of things can go wrong but for the most part, coming out of it... I'm like a completely different person. They almost had to restrain my arms because of how crazy I was acting, physically.

It's an awful feeling (before and after) and there's no easy way of dealing with it.

Country: United States.
State: Pennsylvania.
County: Warren.
I graduated from high school on June-11-2011. I'm 19 right now. I'm turning 20 in December. I like playing video games, and board games. I like reading Sci-Fi, and World War II novels, and what not.

"There is nothing better in the world than being better at a video game than someone else....oh wait"

When I was in middle school I got some surgery on my leg. If it wasn't for the smexy nurse holding my hand during it. I probably would have ripped the mask off.

I've been put under once for an operation to clean an infection in my foot. It wasn't bad at all.

I like video games, Jesus, music, and love my girlfriend. :) PM me, we'll talk.

I was put under for an appendectomy once, and I'm going under this month to have my Wisdom teeth removed.

I had an appendectomy when I was about 4, was put under for that. To be honest, I don't remember all that much - all I know is that it gave me tinnitus.

I didn't have problems with going under by itself. The problem was that I knew that I was going to wake up with a chest tube in me. Though, I suppose waking up with a chest tube was better than the first time around when they just put one in me while I was still awake.

  • 11.29.2012 8:09 AM PDT

Oh hai thar!

I thought it was great, although it makes it feel like you wake up drunk. Come out of it with no pain, so it was very enjoyable.

I've been under twice. Once for broke ankle surgery, and once for wisdom teeth surgery.

I can't say I hated it as you did, but the thought of it now raises my anxiety, that's for sure. On the coming out crazy, that was me the one time I did it. Mind you, I went under with my kneecap torn open such that you could see bone beneath and came out with five each of stitches and staples there, so it was definitely an adjustment to make, and I did not make it well!

Yeah, it obviously depends on the person as well as the situation. I was bleeding internally and they had to actually go in to find out why and to fix it. Everyone was pretty clueless. Made things scarier. Probably why I had such a terrible experience.

I've been put under GA twice. One of them was when I need to remove a benign tumor in my ankle. The second time was when I needed a Spinal Tap. I was fairly young both times. The experience with the GA wasn't bad, but my fear of the injections and the procedure was terrible at the time.

Honestly, I enjoyed it. I was really tired the morning of my surgery, so I was happy to get to sleep. :D

Really though, general anesthesia for me is what I imagine death like. No dreams, just blackness and a total loss of time.

I have not.

My biggest fear of hospitals though is cathertization.

Honestly, I'd think they'd have to put me under in order to do it to me. People who "self-cath" like on those commercials sounds like the most horrifying thing in the world to me. I'm not shoving any tubes up my wiener.

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

Never.
Not even when they took my wisdom teeth out.

Intravenous catheters are much worse. They put a bajillion things of tape all over your arm so when it comes time to remove it, you get the most painful "wax" of your life. Then when they take the catheter out, you can see it and it's scary to think that huge as plastic thing was in a vein, and then when they get it out, blood shoots out.

When they pull out the ureter cath, it's just a quick pull and all is well. Having them put it in was a scary thought...people messing around my private bits. But in a hospital, when you see all the people they have to deal with, you realize it's no big deal. They've seen just about everything.

Wizzy

I've been put under three times.

Honestly, it isn't even that bad, imo. Unpleasant, yes, but nothing to moan over. Your hand gets jabbed, you black out, then you wake in your ward hungry. Then again, it was a long time ago (about 7 years, I think) since I was last put under so I might no be remembering everything.

I was once for a knee arthroscopy. The last thing I remembered was them putting the IV in, then me waking up in the bed post-op. It was really weird in the first couple hours post-op, but I just slept it off and it was fine.

My band and artist networking/information site. Check it out!

It doesn't knock me out. I've been through two surgeries and some other procedures that I was given it, and I was awake through all of them...I was completely numb, but I could feel pressure of the pushing/touching.

Friends before pixels.

Once, when I was four and had something done to my teeth (I was born with enamel on the outside).

I remember walking in, then my next memory is when I was five.

...

Dunno if that's shoddy memory, or if it screwed my memory a bit.

ALAN IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!

What is General Anesthesia? I've been put under when I underwent circumcision, where the gas knocks you out and such.

If that's what you mean, then yes I have. I dreamt I was Alice in Wonderland falling down the rabbit hole. Or that may have been laughing gas they used. I confuse the two regularly.
