Nintendo will never die. They're the oldest game company around today.

So could this be the end for Nintendo? Would they just stay away from consoles and depend solely on Handhelds?
Seems like it could go that way.

There's no denying that the 360 and PS3 dominate the console niche.

eh, just because the console sales are high doesn't mean its games sales are not. Nintendo has the DS and the Wii still. Not to mention the massive amount of characters they have going for them that they base games off of. Plus they've had quite a few square enix games release on their platform. In my opinion, the Wii U has a lot of games in development for it still, which will most likely stretch the limits of the new game pad.

Just because it didnt sell as high as the Xbox 360 did on black friday doesnt mean jack in the long run

The Wii U got out sold by an older console on 1 day of sales compared to a week.

That's pretty much the nail in Nintendo's coffin.

They survived the Virtual Boy, they'll get through this.

Old school nintendo is probably the best.

Nintendo is going to die if they don't catch up technologically to Sony or Microsoft for the next console.

Facts and statistics won't change my opinion, bro. Still loving good ol' Nintendo.

I wouldn't put very much stock into that just yet.

Wait until after the Christmas sales go through. I imagine most parents are going to pick one up for little Timmy around then.

If it doesn't sell well on Christmas, then yeah, things won't be looking great for Nintendo.

I suggest you read the OP before posting about things you clearly don't understand.

In a day a 5yr old console sold more than the Wii U did in it's opening week. The fact it hasn't been out long should be helping the wii u.

Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

The Wii U launch lineup is pretty lackluster. When they start rolling out games that people consider "must-have", it will sell more. You have to remember as well that the huge market that the Wii catered to is not going to purchase a Wii U, as they already have their wii.

  • 11.29.2012 10:23 AM PDT

You are comparing a brand new console in its release week with limited amounts to a console that has been around for 7 years going on sale for Black Friday.

That is an awful comparison.

Also, just to point out, the Xbox had Black Ops II and Halo 4 drop just before Black Friday. That certainly boosted console sales for it.

Maybe it is the lackluster launch titles? Ever think of that? When the new smash bros and Zelda/Mario are out they will sell more.

  • 11.29.2012 10:25 AM PDT

Maybe it would sell more if they didnt rush it out and have a massive launch day download that will take hours to finish. You are literally paying 300+ for an unfinished product out of the box. They should sell it for $100 less because if someone is buying the system without online service, they are getting a broken system.

  • 11.29.2012 10:25 AM PDT

<3

They sold their product at the wrong time. Plus Black Ops and Halo had just come out and it messed up their sales. Not that many people are going to buy those games for their consoles and then buy the Wii U. Plus the launch games for the Wii U weren't that interesting.

And the fact that the WiiU is going for 300+ and 360 is going for 99+ makes no difference?

I agree that the wii u has bad launch titles but i've found that most people do not care for the latest, for lack of better word, rehash produced by nintendo-whether it be the new zelda or mario. Essentially the games are so similar most people who own the wii won't care about getting the wii u to buy them, instead it will be mostly the hardcore nintendo fanbase. Of which is no way near the size of nintendo's casual audience.

Also got to factor in most children will most likely be asking for xbox's or playstations for christmas, todays generation (as far as i'm aware) aren't inclined towards nintendo like the kids in the good old days.
