I think one of Nintendo's biggest mistakes was trying to be different instead of trying to be better.

They went from having the best console in a generation to arguably the worst. Though that's not to say they don't have a large amount of their own fanbase who are willing to buy their stuff. They aren't going the way of SEGA yet.

And it's sad that SEGA is where they are.

My name is from Star Wars. Now you know.

Feel free to follow me on my twitter and stalk me.

Most economists believed Nintendo to be dead several times. After the Gamecube's (financial) failure, it was considered dead in the water. Then the DS was released and revived them, and the release of the Wii propelled them to the top of the sales charts.

I believe they can actually pull another one of theses if they actually put their minds to it and advertise the hell out of whatever they come up with.

And the fact that the WiiU is going for 300+ and 360 is going for 99+ makes no difference?

Not really. If anything it has more to do with the lack of marketing, lack of games, and the cost. Though seeing how the cost is similar to the Wii at launch yet it still sold around half as many consoles it just shows Wii is losing the ground it use to have a few years back.

Wii U has not even been out long. Are you idiotic?

I suggest you read the OP before posting about things you clearly don't understand.

In a day a 5yr old console sold more than the Wii U did in it's opening week. The fact it hasn't been out long should be helping the wii u.

And the fact that the WiiU is going for 300+ and 360 is going for 99+ makes no difference?

And no one has posted the fact that the Wii U sold 400k units in its NA launch week while the 360 sold around 320k or so. Yeah, Microsoft sure is doomed.

If you're going to highlight anything Nintendo-related from Black Friday, talk about how the DS outsold the 3DS.

Don't LOL if you aren't L'inOL.

Halo: Reach
Halo 3
Halo ODST

Plus, especially considering that their target audience is kids, people are most likely waiting for Christmas. Just sayin'.

Really what killed them is the lack of hardware compared to the other consoles. It limits the amount of games developers are willing to make.

Oh, you think darkness is your ally. You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a man. By then, it was nothing to me but BLINDING!

Sega does what Nintendon't.
Nintendo sucks.

I'm just wondering about the lack of Marketing on their consoles recently. That's the main issue. If they have hyped it up it would have gone through the roof. Yet they didn't. Was there even a commercial or trailer for it?

Did they fire them all? I'm still sticking with this is all a big test to see how well a new console will sell without any marketing whatsoever. They certainly have the money to keep themselves up if it fails. Also the console itself is amazing.

Also look at it this way. What is a parent more likely going to buy? A $100 console for their child or a $300 console for their child? Don't count Nintendo out yet.

You need to buy them to give them as presents, they don't just appear.

Hey, maybe loads of people just haven't bought it yet. It's still November.

That's really surprising considering how the Wii sold far more than the 360 and PS3. Although I haven't seen much advertising for the Wii U.

The only one that's in danger of going the way of Sega is Sony.

That is possible since sales go up in December, but I imagine most people would rather buy an xbox 360 or PS3 rather than a WiiU.

  • 11.29.2012 10:47 AM PDT

The Xbox is cheaper. I doubt the same will happen when the new generation of consoles from Microsoft and Sony come out, and their prices are placed higher than the WiiU.

Nevermind that the Xbox's reputation has had time to be built-up for several years, while people may be skeptical of the WiiU.

I dont lie. Really.

The WiiU is basically nintendo's answer to the current Microsoft and sony consoles, which have been out for 5 plus years. As soon as the next gen PS3 and 360 is released, it's all over the wiiU.

Dont be so sure. Sega was doing incredibly well in the console department. Even the dreamcast was selling like wildfire the first few years. The the PS2 came along the sega lost everything. All it takes is one superior console the knock nintendo out of the water.

That is only true if the new xbox costs $500+ which is unlikely based on what most people have been saying. Leaks say it will cost around $300 which if true the WiiU is going to get wrecked.

Nope, their handhelds are extremely profitable, the DS is basically a money printing machine for them. Sony on the other hand is pretty much failing on all fronts, the only profitable thing they have right now is their insurance division.

I can assure you it won't be priced at 300$. If I remember correctly, the 360 was priced at 400$. It only makes sense for the next one to be priced the same.
