It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

I just bought this game on sale for PS3 the past weekend, and now I finally have time to play it.

Is there anyone on the Flood who has played it willing to give me any tips/tricks in regards to character creation, as well as just basic advice?

I'm actually scared of how hard it's going to be.

Honestly it doesn't matter who you pick because you can literally go any route you want with any character.

Don't be afraid to die, eventually you will learn enemy placement and movements and you'll be able to dance around their attacks as though they were children. If you're a warrior, lots of Endurance is super good, it allows you to block progressively larger attacks. If you want to make a mage, you don't need to invest in Intelligence if you do Pyromancy, but you do if you want to do Sorcery.

Good luck!

you might be tempted to level up all your skills equally, but in my experience that's generally not a good idea. It just makes you bad at everything.

Dude, it's one of the easiest games of all time. It's a running gag about how hard it is.

lolno. While I'm not saying that it is the hardest game of all time it certainly isn't one of the easiest. It's among the hardest modern games that doesn't use cheap mechanics or any stupid -blam!- like that.

i did, i didn't even realize there was another direction to go, let alone several. I spent hours in the graveyard leveling until i could pretty much one shot anything in there. Than i went into the catacombs and rage quit after getting killed be skeletons repeatedly, not realizing they were reviving. Yeah.

The graveyard is a good early challenge and a good place to level, but it kind of makes everything too easy if you stay there too long.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

Patience is key. Memorize everything. Attack patterns, enemies, locations......explore often, because you'll find some really cool stuff that's very helpful. Mostly, just don't let yourself get frustrated.

You can either make one of three or four basic build types: Faith for miracle, Int for spells, Strength or Dex for weapons, or Vit and End for survival.

Pick one and stick to it rather strongly. It's ok to invest a few points so you can use the weapon you want or so you have a little extra health or stamina, but it is not a good idea to put some points into faith and int.

Understand that certain weapons benefit based on your stats. For example a dagger might scale off your Dex to a A level while a greatsword might scale to strength off a B level. Pick weapons that benefit from your stats of choice.

Dark Souls is probably my favorite recent game and if you get stuck on something I'll try to answer it. Part of the fun of the game is the difficulty though, so it's hard not to ruin it in that manner.

ANd understand the online features. Signs are left on the ground to warn you of traps usually. And if you become human you can summon help but at the same time put yourself at risk of being invaded by another player.

Trying hard or hardly trying?

One key piece of advice, don't put too much into Resistance. It is the most useless stat. Your gear is what makes your character in this game.

This is true. Don't put any points into resistance. If you want more defense invest in vitality instead.

Dark Souls group.

Play as a faith build. You'll have more healing items and please get the master key as your gift.

The Game

Your going to get your dick kicked in for the first 10 hours. After that, you will get the hang of it.
The Game isn't hard, it's challenging, always fair and very rewarding.

Learn to strafe and you're halfway to beating the game.

Fair play

The PVP is unbalanced. The only thing that keeps it ¨clean¨ is the honor code, not to gank, glitch or use cheap builds.

Regardless, you'll rarely find a competitive player.
