Alt account #4 because i can!

take the 16 lowest GPA's per year, and at the end of every 2 quarters, put them in a Deathmatch tournament, with the winner getting their slate wiped clean.

Increase funding

The solution to any problem is to throw more money at it. Fact.
In this case, it is. But it needs to be invested in restructuring and building a new foundation, not just throw money at it.

Coming from a student, many of my friends see no point in trying. There needs to be more motivational methods or something of the sort, because many kids simply do not want to learn.

We also need to incorporate much more technology into our schools. We now live in a high-tech world where information can be access in an instant. It's ridiculous to think many schools, including mine, do not utilize this.

Stop cutting school budgets and threatening teachers with job-loss and pay-cuts.

Florida has it some of the worst, and it honestly shows in my area. Most high-school level kids can't put out a full sentence, and many others can't find some obvious issues in places where they should be obvious.

Actually Florida has some of the best education in comparison to other states dude. They're ranked 11 out of all states.

The teachers are pretty good here, but there's just no money. We're using computers that take 15 minutes to turn on, on the rare occasion they actually work.

On a more somber note, this is unfortunately how the U.S. government tries to solve our problems.

Yes. They cause more problems than they solve.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

Everybody here is saying that teachers' unions should be destroyed, but noone has explained how this will actually impact educational outcomes...

Any takers?

That's only because stubborn people don't give them what they should of had in the first place.

In my district-area, the schools and other public-services are to be taking a $30-million hit because of the power company. The power company are to be suing the schools and other public services because they are $30-million behind on taxes.

It is wrong, it is also illegal.

So you're upset because the school system is paying their bills and now they're being sued for not paying?

I don't see what the problem is. Stop giving pay raises to teachers what seems like every fn week and take care of business.

  • 11.29.2012 1:28 PM PDT

Pay public school teachers less, integrate schools more, and focus on teaching reading, english, math, science, and social studies rather than for the standardized tests.

This is all aimed at public schools by the way.

The teachers are pretty good here, but there's just misspent money. We're using computers that take 15 minutes to turn on, on the rare occasion they actually work.

fix'd.

The money is there and given to the school systems in an adequate amount. But it is wasted frivolously in areas that are not efficient in improving student performance.

ONCE AGAIN!

The policies in place need to change. The school system gets more than enough money. Schooling in the U.S. is literally one of the biggest funded programs by the federal government under military.

You missed the whole entire point. I'm upset that the power company is suing the school system because the power company is in debt from taxes. The first thing to be hit would be the schools. The power company, moron.

This has turned out to be the worst thing to do. Fire the good teachers because they want a little more, and then bring in the sub-par teachers who really don't give a damn.

The real problem is that the school system can't fire the bad teachers because of the union.

I swear, if one more person says "increase funding" I'll shoot someone.

The United States spends more money per student than nearly everyone already. Fact.

Money isn't the problem.

Tell me about it. I'm so sick of hearing that main stream media regurgitation that some people vomit.

Schools get more than enough fn money. Fix the damn polices, get rid of No Child Left Behind and nuke the fn teacher's union.

Sounds to me like you need to move a lot of those achievement goals down to the board level as opposed to the state or federal level. From what I've been reading about NCLB, it seems to me that schools don't have a lot of leeway to develop their own strategies and academic targets due to the way the funding model is tied to hard percentages.

The decision making for achievement targets and strategies needs to be brought down to the front line and put in the hands of the people who have the most contact with the students.

Maybe you should have wrote out your original response in more clear way so that it could be understood better. And why the need to start calling names? This why these type of discussions usually get locked because of people like you. Instead of talking and debating about it, you take it personal, throwing out emotional retorts.

Exactly!

this would also encourage parents to take more responsibility with their child as opposed to the school always being responsible.

Parents are not as involved as they should be anymore and teachers do not teach the subject. They are forced into essentially teaching kids to memorize. Performance based testing would be so much better.

Plenty of folks out there looking for jobs right now, while the union ensures that underperforming people never get cut, and instead receive benefits and a regular pay raises.
