I got very close to a girl who I'd never dream of being attracted to (she was a VERY close friend, and I didn't see her that way until it "clicked"). After doing some investigating, I found out that she may not have been interested in me (all of my friends thought she was, because she would treat me differently and give me "special" attention that was touchy and definitely flirty). So before I could tell her anyway, my friend got mad and yelled at her for leading me on (not sure if she did it on purpose) which pretty much scared her away.
Now, a month later, I'm almost over it, but I still have some lingering feelings here and there. We maintain contact, but it's strange and not as fun as it used to be. I think time will heal what happened, and she's even started to show some signs again (maybe she's just a flirty person?). Now I don't know what to do. I have something for her, but not that much anymore. She's still a good friend though.
EDIT: About your girl, you should just wait until they break up, you don't know how long it could last. Also, if she's going out with a jock, she probably doesn't deserve you anyway. Don't go for just looks, I've looked past that already. My girl is definitely pretty, but she's nothing out of this world.
