I would think it's because of replayability and nostalgia.

My troll sense is tingling.

It's hard to say, even some of the most straight forward games have more replayability than most open-ended ones. Thinking about it, it has to have made an impact on me personally. I make a point to play through Metal Gear Solid at least once every season and Alan Wake is slowly working its way there as well.
