Subject: Competitive Players should design MP

"Except we, we're the zebras. All fenced in...and ready for the slaughter!"

||S-fen Knee-cheh
||19th Shock Troops Battalion

I can see it now.

The ratio of 'competitive' players to 'casual' players is probably in the range of 1:10,000. If you want your game to sell you will design it to be easily accessible and fun. Just be happy that some games are flexible enough to provide both experiences.

Just remember that no matter how terrible you feel, or how much you want to let go, there are people who care about you and love you.

Halo 4 is a good game covered with casual -blam!- and is declining pretty fast in population
Yet, Halo 4 is still #2 on the XBL activity charts...

I think XBL is dying.

Halo 2 was competitive and had a high population
It also had zero competition on Live apart from RTCW which was almost 2 years old.
If Halo 2 was released today, it would beat out all call of duties.
And how did you expect to not come off as a fanboy with that sentence?

I am a fanboy. I love halo mjultiplayer

But its embarrassing what halo has become.

You can love what Halo was, and you don't have to like it now. But what Halo was would never survive in today's market.

And you admit you're a fanboy, but you don't think it's possible that your opinion is biased against any change to Halo.

No, that's the worst idea I've ever heard, you "competitive pros" would have no Idea what you're doing, you have no Idea what balance is, how map dynamics work, how lines of sight have to be fairly balanced, depth, height of maps, if it should be a Vehicle map, or a close quarters map... Now, if you gave the best forgers in halo free reign to make a map... well then you'd have balance, map dynamics, and proper maps... all of that good stuff that everyone likes.

All the other stuff IDGAF unless you nerf my full auto weapons. if you think DMRs ande BRs should beat out the rest I don't want you even THINKING about weapon sandbox.
You have no idea what you're talking about.

I saw the rest. It was garbage.

You think forgers and casuals have a better grasp of the game than competitive players who know every little thing about the game?

Except you don't. Playing the game well doesn't translate into the complications that actually go into designing it.

My legit Killtrocity

Camping like a 'mouth breather'
If Fed Ex and UPS merged into one company, would it be called Fed Up?

I don't want to start another account for a digital number that has no true value in ten years.

You're assuming that "competitiveness" of a game is associated with population... lol no

Oh but it does. If I know every in and out of every map since H1 and every weapon time, and every competitive mismatch. I have the ability to make a fair and balanced, competitive game

Halo no longer has that chess kind of approach on it where two teams battle for map control, working together to outplay the other team. Its now a bunch of sugar rushed ten year old's playing soccom boppers at 12:00 AM.

This. OP, if you let only the competitive community design the maps, we're just going to get The Octagon with eight different skins. Sorry, but that sounds incredibly boring.

Posted by: TehWarMoose
Then we'd end up with an incredibly unbalanced, contradictory, and effectively unplayable piece of crap. Designing a game that's actually enjoyable is a lot harder than making a list of complaints and pushing a magic button.

which is true. However, this point gets slammed when I say the populations is easily 7 times higher than halo 2 times. More games sure but a much higher population.

Once again, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Someone who played high 50s in Halo 3 or played MLG on a regular basis will know 10x more about map layouts and balance than any other person who plays the game. That doesn't mean they could design a game from scratch, but that does mean if you gave them the tools they would be able to make the most fair, balanced and competitive game type.

This is exactly right. In sports who are you going to ask for coaching advice a hockey player in midget or an Mlg all star. Common sense right here.

This.

Um, this is the first time I posted in this thread.

I'm all for letting them make edits to already available maps. However I by no means want them to build the maps from scratch (what I mean is, let them draw out and have it created for them). I'm all for fair and balanced game play, but chances are, they're going to design the maps to be different but ultimately all play the same.

I'm willing to admit I'm wrong here though, I never made it to high 50 games in Halo 3 cause I got rank locked in Lone Wolves.

They're also likely to be just as, if not more biased towards their preferences just because when people play competitively, they play to win more than anything (not saying they don't all enjoy it).

Biased towards what?

A fair and balanced game where the better player always wins.

Shouldnt that always happen?

Or we can let the people with degrees and jobs and experience do it...

Which isn't a bad thing to have a bias towards more balanced maps and gameplay. Looks at reflection and sword base.

They do a pretty good job making a class based system made on luck. Or balanced maps like said base or powerhouse right? Red advantage much?
