Subject: A question for the younger floodians:

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

Did you, or do you, want to be an astronaut when you grew up?

I wonder if this is a dead dream now. When I was a kid we always pulled a TV in the classroom whenever the shuttle was launched. I remember Challenger exploding. Dangers aside, this made many of us want to see the stars ourselves.

Since NASA has been basically defunded, and there seems to be no new manned missions past the ISS in the works, do any of you want to be astronauts still?

Is this a dead dream now?

I wanna go to space and kill aliens and never afraid of anything

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

In a few Hundred Years everyone will be Astronauts.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I would think that job is a dead dream unless we're able to convince our rulers that space exploration is useful and good somehow.

I want to go to another earth like planet. I wanna see another race too.

What's up, bro-fist!

Wanted to be master of DO NOT WANT, but in latin to show he's clever.

I've always wanted to become an astronaut.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

I think when I was really young I wanted to for a while. I always thought every kid wanted to at some point.

hmm

My dream is to become a Spartan, but i guess becoming an ODST will suffice.

TRU7H. CARNAGE. BUNGIE

Do I want to dedicate my whole life on flying to space in order to wipe and service solar panels that power my small inhabitant? No.

But I do plan on devoting my life to science. And visiting space and possibly other planets or even solar systems is pretty high on my list of dreams.

totally relevant

Butt ugly ape” remarked Sergeant Johnson always making fun out of the situation even though he had been hit by a spiker round in the arm. He mustered up the strength to continue and the team moved on. The Arbiter informed him that the next room held The Prophet of Truth and this was the final room before extraction. Jun proposed that he takes a shot from a distance the prophet and they all head back to the ship bay for extraction. The team agreed on this and breached the last door…

No, Hellz No

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

Somehow I must've known even then that I wasn't smart enough to become an astronaut, because no, that was never a dream of mine.

Judging by the responses, aside from one, it does look like the dream of being an astronaut is indeed dead.

You guys have either been dismissive or have just not been serious about the reply.

Its sad. I remember kids wanting to go up and explore. Now our vision of space is limited by the aiming HUD in Master Chief's helmet.

  • 11.30.2012 8:05 AM PDT

:)

Space sounds, looks and generally is AWESOME...so long as you know FTL travel.

I think anyone would want to go to space, young or not.

  • 11.30.2012 8:07 AM PDT

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

I still want space exploration and colonization but that probably won't happen in our lifetime since everything is losing funding.

Yes, I wanted to be an astronaut when I was little.

I'm 18 and at school for aerospace engineering for this exact reason.

And if it doesn't work out I can still build jets and stuff.

Seems pretty farfetched but I wouldn't mind being a part of this.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. I don't care if it's a suicide mission or not.

OT: I don't think I ever wanted to be an astronaut. I kinda do now, but I think I'm a lil late on that dream..

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

I've never wanted to be an astronaut. Space doesn't interest me. Neither does being in a cramped tube for extended periods of time.

  • 11.30.2012 8:54 AM PDT

I did, but that faded over time.

  • 11.30.2012 8:59 AM PDT

Define "Younger" please. But no I didn't. I think it'd be cool to go into space once but I wouldn't want to do it again seems too dangerous.

  • 11.30.2012 9:05 AM PDT

After seeing Apollo 18 I'd rather not....

I'm your biggest fan!

18 years old and I don't remember ever wishing I was an astronaut. If anything, I like the idea of it more now than I ever did before, though it's still not even close to an ambition of mine.

I'm sorry that kids of a different generation have a different dream to you. That's just how it goes.
