I try my best to block out the screams
But they're haunting me in my dreams
Please, break my shackles, I want it to stop

Sergeant Explosion and The Quiet Day in London.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an astronaut.

Who am I?

mah twitter

I don't think it really matters if it becomes impossible to become an astronaut, kids will still keep dreaming about becoming one. I know I never had a chance, but I have still dreamed about it.

I did want to be Bill Nye the Science Guy, though.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

Hells yes. But I grew up in Central Florida watching Apollo go up and was around 10 when they stopped. So I was close to the action, impressionable, and a little rocket/spaceship fanboy child.

I'm going to invade your heart like a barn swallow high on milk chocolate and grandma love.

Fairness is only possible within the limited powers of man. Elsewhere, there is only chance.

Thus I refute thee.

That's my mega stretch dream job.

First I gotta develop artificial gravity for vessels so my body doest became weak. I love my body and dont want to damage it for life like space activity can.

"Life is constantly fleeting from your grasp even from the very day it's bestowed upon you, but the shadow of death is always there, waiting for its chance to take you away."

"Even though many may not think so, ignorance and innocence are one and the same. The only difference is that one sounds nicer."

"I once knew a man who spent his entire life contemplating where we go after our death....it's a shame he realized it a second too late to tell anyone."

I don't care enough about what my childhood dreams were to remember them well.

I'm 16, and no. Never... I always wanted to be a Vet! And I am going to be a vet! (At least, if my grades raise)

  • 11.30.2012 10:14 AM PDT

Well I'm in my early teens so that dream died a few years back. But yes I really did want to be one at one point

You guys have either been dismissive or have just not been serious about the reply.

You expected serious replies in the flood? Shame on you, OP.

OT:No

In the way of part of the new Germany was Poland so Hitler and Stalin took it over so Germany could grow.

What.

I love astronomy and all, but I've never wanted to be an astronaut.

iPhone 4S 64GB Black.

I would hate it. I have no reason to put my life in so much danger, I value my life too much. I would hate the experience also. The only thing I'd like about it is seeing the Earth from space, and the stars.

Shakes Magic 8 Ball

Yeah, I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid. Space movies were kind of a thing back in the 90s in my family.

Gamertag - Rdog 11

Call me Rdog, not RdOG or RdOG1507. I made that username when I thought it was cool to use alternating capital and lowercase letters...

I dreamed of being an argonaut

Judging by the responses, aside from one, it does look like the dream of being an astronaut is indeed dead.

You guys have either been dismissive or have just not been serious about the reply.

Its sad. I remember kids wanting to go up and explore. Now our vision of space is limited by the aiming HUD in Master Chief's helmet.

The Chief can hear you and he is not pleased......

This is my last year in high school, if all goes well and according to plan, I'll try to pursue a career in Astrophysics. It's a far more intriguing field, and the cosmos is filled with a great many unsolved mysteries, but unfortunately, manned missions are on a great decline, but great discoveries are being made on a feverish pace, so maybe a mission to Titan or one of Saturn's moons one day. One can only hope.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I've got to correct some of your facts. NASA has not been defunded, and there is currently a mission to send men to L2 using the SLS and Orion Capsule. And no, it is not a dead dream.

  • 11.30.2012 11:10 AM PDT

When I was a kid (like 5) I wanted to be a fireman, later when I was like 11-12 I wanted to be in the Navy.

I don't really remember wanting to be an astronaut...

Now I'm 20 and am getting ready to go away to college for Computer Engineering.

I wouldn't mind visiting the moon some day though... that would be cool...

Do I want to be an astronaut though... not really. Not until ships are like the enterprise from star trek (any of them will do really though the enterprise D or E would be nice...)

13.72 billion years in the making.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

It'd be a phenomenal experience, but I don't think I have the mental will to do it.

Why is taking a crew to L2? Has nothing to do with JWST, does it?
