"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

You better believe it! I've been following this since the second they started the kickstarter.
The fact that it's being done by Obsidian combined with the game being one of my favorite genres has me so stoked! I really hope it's successful, and I love all the info they're giving the community every step of the way.
Likewise! You know, it seems the cRPG genre is actually coming (slowly) back.
We have Obsidian working on Project Eternity. Which could possibly be the greatest cRPG of all time.
Plus we have Overhaul Games who have revealed their intent to make Baldur's Gate 3 following their completion on both enhanced editions, describing it as their "long-term goal". They would, however, reveal that Baldur's Gate 3 would only be possible if the Enhanced Editions do well financially and if the team demonstrates the ability to successfully make their own original content. Overhaul Games has also stated that they would like to produce overhauls of Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment using rules from Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition if it is successful. The Planescape: Torment overhaul would use the Infinity Enhanced Engine as well as possibly set up the stage for a sequel to Torment.
On top of that, the legendary Black Isle Studios has been revived this year. Although with different people, Chris Avellone is with Obsidian working on Project Eternity. Although they came back with the motto "Our goal has always been to make the world's best RPGs" and the slogan "Black Isle is Back".
So yeah, the cRPG genre could be looking at a revival.
I really hope so. In my opinion, it's one of the only genres that isn't affected by aging. A Baldur's Gate 3 would be incredible! I'm surprised that they aren't just planning to use 4th edition D&D rules with it, though. Seems like a natural fit, given how similar 4th is to a video game anyway.
On an off-topic note, was anyone else disappointed in LOTR: War in the North? I was expecting more from Snowblind Studios, given how good they were in the past. It wasn't a bad game, per se, but it wasn't as good as it could have been, and CERTAINLY not the best from SS.
