NON FACET NOBIS CALCITRARE VESTRUM PERNǢUM

"A robot that is able to navigate through a city and deliver a package from one place to another," he says. "I think that kind of thing will be within reach in the next 10 years." *from article

Nice, robotic pizza delivery guys!

Creating blocks for an AI takeover isn't too hard. You can literally hard-code into the machinery itself, which cannot be rewritten without removing or replacing that machinery.

hardcode a set of ethics, as well as the rule that it can never replace it's own or another robot's "heads" with any modified form, nor can it create a modified form.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

I wonder if we'll eventually have AI like Cortana? That would be pretty neat as long as it doesn't try to kill us.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I'm not super impressed. It is still no match for the human brain, and honestly, I cannot see it ever attaining that level of self-sufficiency.

Cortana is supposedly based on a real, living brain. Supposedly if one could re-create or even simulate a complete brain you would have a "living", thinking, thing. Of course the only way to know this is to try it.

Everything is interesting if you go into it deeply enough.

What, exactly, is intelligence?

If you're striving to create an AI that is truly intelligent, i.e. it can learn new things and is self-aware, then you're creating something that can literally rise above its programming (much like humans [mostly] rise above their instincts).

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Skynet was Canadian. Plot twist.

Excited to have my entire self transferred onto one and put in a robot body.

You obviously have no idea how instincts work.
Please, enlighten me.

I've challenged my beliefs. What is the book about?

I find that this is usually untrue. If religious people honestly, diligently and intelligently challenged their beliefs, there would be no religious people.

lol @ people treating neural networks like a new thing.

I enjoy halo for it's story and when I am in the mood, its gameplay. Reach was significantly worse then I expected but was still a great game (minus the european hitscan fiasco). I am sitting on a two mile wide fence on the subject of halo 4. Most of the things I like a technical aspects though and not story or game play. Plus I am slightly mad they took my elites from MP.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

Now if we can just find a non-virtual brain that shows intelligence...

I don't understand this sado-masochistic self-hatred for the human race.

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

I have some fears for this. I hope they don't go any further with this.

  • 11.30.2012 1:25 PM PDT

See, this is ridiculous. Why are we wasting our money on this?

Proud Spartan II, COG soldier, Hero of time, and crowbar wielding scientist.

Scientists. We don't need that. It has too much potential harm.
