I've seen a picture of a logging vehicle from somewhere in scandinavia that has multiple legs, so this isn't that far fetched.
Pics plz.

Found it:

Apparently it reduces the need for roads and operates/turns better in tighter spaces.
It would be a stealthy way to get artillery within firing range of enemy assets, you wouldn't have to worry about following patrolled roads or needing to clear the forest/knock over trees. That's my theory.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

Awesome Looking Vehicle.
It is settled, we shall now call it the ALV!
I think we should add a lower case long "e" at the end. ALVe sounds way better to say aloud (as a word). It still works because of Vehicle.

Big Dog makes creepy noises in your general direction.
Maybe it's just me, but that seems inferior in every way. If big dog were the size of a tank it wouldn't have any easier of a time going through a wooded area than treads. Sure, Big Dog does a good job of not completely falling over on ice or when some dude Leonidas-kicks it, but it also skitters around like a totalt -blam!- in both those situations. Tanks don't take no -blam!-. Big dog can climb over a small pile of cinderblocks at a slow speed with assistance from a man and a rig while the video is played at 1.5X speed, the tank could just plow through it.

Dont get me wrong, Big Dog is cool an all, but for tank purposes i think Hyle is right about the treads being superior. Sure, the leg movement was a little creepy at first and it has that annoying buzz, but after you see it get kicked and slip on the smalles possible patch of ice it just seems like an awkward puppy with respiratory issues.

As for the tank in the picture, i also thought biomechanical, because the front leg looks too curved to be a mechanized joint, and if the material attaching the foot to the body was some sort of hydraulic leg it would be an incredibly obvious weak spot.

Also, there's clearly a floating sphere, possible some sort of sentry turret or droid, traveling with the apparently alien soldiers and 'tank.' If they can make a floating sphere, they wouldn't have inferior locomotive technology on their tanks. Which begs the question, did they build the sphere, or did someone else? It does resemble the Traveler.

Tanks use tracks, not wheels. Snowmobiles also use tracks. I highly doubt that's a coincidence. And it seems unlikely that a futuristic tank designed by aliens is meant to have the advantage in only one type fo terrain.

What if it isn't a tank?

What if... it's armour?
I wonder what it eats...

I think we're missing the most important factor here.

That's where Petman comes in handy.

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

March 3, 2553

It reminds me if starwars because the infranty look like snow troopers, and the tank a walker thing.

You and Me and the Devil makes three.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that this is the enemy we will face in the game due to the fact that they have more than 2 eyes.
So the tanks are alien in nature. Plus with super robot legs your tank instantly becomes an all terrain vehicle.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

I have a feeling it may operate on similar mechanics as to what we saw with the Scarab. The A.I could may be improved dramatically and incorperated, because the Scarab was already a great enemy to begin with. As for actually being able to drive it... I wouldn't be able to guess just yet what would count as "balance" since I'm unaware of the other level of powers of items, vehicles and weapons in the game... But man, I can tell its going to be a hell of a lot of fun if we get to drive that.

I don't think that these are aliens. Except for the four lights on their helmets they don't look alien at all. Sam Fisher has three lights on his night vision goggles too, but he is no alien, is he?

@Bungie always makes realistic designs: No, just no. Look for example at Warthog, Ghost, Falcon, Hornet, Phantom they're all open and it is incredibly easy to shoot the people inside. Bungie designs stuff that looks cool and unique, but they never designed very practical or realistic vehicles/weapons etc.

Why is that dude's cloak tattered? Don't they have tailors 2712?

Well, there's supposedly only one (major?) city left in the world, and these guys don't seem to be near it...

EDIT: BTW, maybe the last city is Puerto Princesa? =P

Um, tatter-proof fabric? Dupont already has advanced woven kevlar fibers coming out of their Protection Technologies labs.

"Moooooooo"

Maybe it's like a Mantis or a mech of some sort. Having energy shields protect its legs would stop them from being crippled. Kind of like MC's Mjolnir armour, where some parts have stronger shields.

What implies these people have access to such technology?

EDIT: Also, is such fabric completely untatterable? Also, art style.

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

Not to mention, a walking tank seems much more difficult and resource intensive to manufacture
I would say this is the opposite and one of the main reasons for having a walking tank - actually I just realised your talking about robot legs. I think they are animal legs ha - Recon was right about how amazing it is people view concept art in different ways.
People have used animals in War for thousands of years, if you are a small faction its much easier to mount guns on an animal than manufacture tanks.

Feel free to send me messages, please be willing to wait 6-8 years for a reply.

1-7 hours if you at least tried to make it readable.

Immediately if you are Yax, Telec, or legendary.

Never if you are mythic, you guys smell funny.

They just look like the walkers from Attack of the clones, oh dear, why does every game made have to be military based?

  • 12.01.2012 7:13 AM PDT

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

This is just concept art, remember.

I'd only start asking questions if the walking tank actually makes it in-game.

It's just people and a big thing.

I refuse to look further into it because my imagination is dead.
