Leave me alone in space.

Destiny has been postponed due to the lack of ideas and falling turtle tanks.
Seems legit.

Imagine what kind of war we'd be fighting if the Taliban had tanks and anti-aircraft guns that could scuttle around their mountainous topography with ease. Legs are vastly superior to wheels and treads over 90% of the earth's surface, and the physiology of earth's land dwelling fauna reflects that.

There are still roads in some of the concept art so I imagine wheeled vehicles will still make an appearance.

I think we're missing the most important factor here.

Treads can't teabag.
This is a good point.

@Bungie always makes realistic designs: No, just no. Look for example at Warthog, Ghost, Falcon, Hornet, Phantom they're all open and it is incredibly easy to shoot the people inside. Bungie designs stuff that looks cool and unique, but they never designed very practical or realistic vehicles/weapons etc.
This is also a point. Yes, there's a certain place where they have to balance gameplay concerns against reality, but I imagine that, when possible, they would want to make the design more realistic. A universe is brought to life through the little details that support each other and create a cohesive experience. I'm going to continue to assume that this is what they are trying to do with the walking tank, because that makes for a more interesting conversation than "Walking tanks sure are cool!".

Maybe it's like a Mantis or a mech of some sort. Having energy shields protect its legs would stop them from being crippled. Kind of like MC's Mjolnir armour, where some parts have stronger shields.
This could also be true.

Why is that dude's cloak tattered? Don't they have tailors 2712?
Tattered cloaks look awesome. Don't rock the boat baby!

That's what many of us are thinking as well.

Not to mention, a walking tank seems much more difficult and resource intensive to manufacture
I would say this is the opposite and one of the main reasons for having a walking tank - actually I just realised your talking about robot legs. I think they are animal legs ha - Recon was right about how amazing it is people view concept art in different ways.
People have used animals in War for thousands of years, if you are a small faction its much easier to mount guns on an animal than manufacture tanks.
I disagree. Unless said animals breed like rabbits and grow like Bamboo, I think it's still easier to create even a walking tank from raw resources mined from the ground than to raise a Frog-Tank from their little tadpole forms.

This is just concept art, remember.

I'd only start asking questions if the walking tank actually makes it in-game.
I can't imagine that DeeJ randomly grab a piece of concept art from Bungie's Big Bin of Concepts without looking and toss it up on the website to see. I mean, what if the first piece of Concept Art we saw for Halo Reach showed all of 7 members of Noble Team posing for a camera prior to Thom and Rosenda being cut out?

I feel strongly that the vehicle is definitely going to be in the game.

Lurking since 2009

I dont think those legs are meant for walking. The front "leg" is far too bendy and long to be used to walk in tandem witht the stubby looking back ones.

Pretty sure with feet that large, you're not going to be daintily tiptoing up stairs step by step.

Walking tanks are so under powered! Fix your game, Bungie! Your concept schmart sucks!

I like the tank in away because it something different, I'm sure Bungie will have a good reason, if its even in the game like that for making it that way. But its still to early to say or tell what will and will not be in the game.

Serious point time: perhaps Bungie are not going for realism in and amongst the details of their game. Jason Jones recently stated that Destiny will hopefully appeal to people's "inner seven-year old", so maybe Bungie is aiming towards a cool, unique art direction as opposed to conforming with other games that follow itty-bitty details etc.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Legs huh? ... What if there are huge ones too, like a Scarab?

Next generation of A.I/vehicle/moving terrain? That's what I'd like to see on the enemy/interactive environment front of gaming.

I know, I know; enough with the Star Wars comparisons, but since we're discussing this particular tank in depth, I thought I might just as well bring it up, however obvious it is.

The first time I saw the Wraith (H3) in Halo, I emediatelly though of the Trade Federation tanks from The Phantom Menece, but purple and fired something similar to Gungan Booma (firing Wraith).

The tank in Destiny looks like yet another iteration of it, one with what looks to be legs. I hope the canon sounds just as cool as it. Not that I want the game to solely live on borrowing stuff...

How do you guys hope it sounds like when it fires?

What a waste....

On Star Wars, the chicken walkers actually make sense. A big tank can't move through dense forest like a thinner figure can. IF this was somehow less of a target than, say, an Abrams, it might be more efficient.

Also, siege tank.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

If stairs are THAT BIG a normal tank wouldn't be able to scale them anyway.

At that point you wonder what the stairs are for. Because hypothetically tanks should be able to roll on up the stairs if the grade isn't too steep. Presuming that there is enough area on each step for the Tank to comfortably position his feet, then that would be quite an elevation change required for the treaded tank to not be able to roll on up. At that point, it's more like a series of ever-increasing walls rather than stairs.

Again, if the Frog can jump, that makes all the sense in the world, otherwise, I'm not buying it.

$.50 in store credit.

Maybe it's really the feet that are special, and not the legs themselves. If they had some form of thrusters they could be angled to jump and evade, or if the feet had claws they could be used for climbing and in combat.

Which would be incredibly bad ass. A Tank that picks up other tanks with claws and rips them in half.
