It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

I simply just don't understand it. What could feel good about self-mutilation and causing harm to yourself? For those who do not know what I'm speaking of, it's the cutting of wrists or other body parts. I've seen it talked about in a couple other threads, as well as more occasions than I can count outside of the internet.

It's probably because I've never done so, or felt the need to before, but it just doesn't add up to me. Can someone explain it?

Also, I don't mean to offend anyone with my ignorance, but if I do so I apologize.

People hurt me so much I want to hurt myself more.

I'm unsure.

Perhaps a cry for attention?

It's supposed to release some kind of chemical that makes some people feel good. I don't know if the chemical comes from the skin or the brain.... but either way, you're pretty -blam!- up if you like to cut yourself.

Tabula Rasa.

It is possibly linked to the release of Adrenaline from injury being inflicted on the body.

This is where the 'relieves the pain' thing comes from as a surge of Adrenaline is likely to numb pain and reduce emotional thoughts.

It is abusing the Fight or Flight system in the body and is a really bad idea.

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

No idea, but I would just say that this guy is right and call it a day.

Get ruled.

When I was a Junior/Senior in high school I self-harmed a lot via burning, cutting, and bruising, among other things.

First off, it did not feel good. It felt awful. I did it due to mental problems such as anxiety and depression, and because I was a religious zealot (not trying to start a religious debate here, but I'd like to add that I am still Christian, but much better now).

Basically, I hurt myself because I thought I deserved, I thought it would teach me a lesson, that it would prevent my loved ones from being harmed, and I could eventually become the perfect human.

Crazy, I know. I'm so much better now.
