The best gaming headsets are the ones that comes without mics.

Which one? There are so many options!

Well, it depends on numerous factors.

1. What's your budget?
2. What's your personal sound preference (do you like it heavy on bass, mids, highs, or just balanced)?
3. Do you have a preference as to an open-back set or closed-back?
4. Will you want to use them for music too?

There are a lot of other factors, but those are just some to get you started.

X12's are $60 and have bass boost.

Spend the rest on Far Cry 3.

Alright alright. Calm your horses cowboy. Based on your response to my previous post, I'll give you some suggestions. Since you want surround sound headphones, that is going to extremely narrow the results, and I suggest that you rethink whether or not you truly want surround sound because you are missing out on a lot of high quality headphones.

-Turtle Beach X42
While this does kind of go against what I said previously about the best headphones having no mic, based on what you need, this is a good option. It offers acceptable surround sound quality and is wireless, so you don't have to worry about wires (obviously).
-Audio Technica A-700x
This is getting more into high-fidelity audio. Audio Technica is known for making high quality headphones, and their line of closed-back audiophile-grade headphones are known to be extremely suitable for both gaming and music. It offers a pretty substantial bass, but doesn't forget about the rest of the spectrum. It isn't surround sound, but for the quality of the sound it produces, it doesn't really matter.
-Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro
This is a very unique set of cans. The sound signature of the headphones is actually adjustable, which means that you can choose whether you want immersive gaming (lots of bass) or competitive gaming (little bass). The headphones allow you to choose how much bass you want which allows it to be extremely versatile. Again, this doesn't have surround sound, but the sound quality it produces is superb.

And if you want a mic, all you have to do is install this mod (with the correct cable adapters to work with an Xbox or PS3) and presto, you have a high quality gaming headset.

But if surround sound is truly what you really care about, Turtle Beach really is the way to go. Just go to their website and check out what they have.

The overpriced ones, so Turtle Beach.

  • 11.30.2012 8:09 PM PDT

Thanks for all your help! I will really look at turtle beaches. The Astro is a bit overpriced. I can afford it but Its not what I need.

Is there a big difference between surround sound and other headsets? Correct me if im wrong but surround sound helps me hear around my character.

Just got me a pair of X12's sound is amazing and you can clearly hear voices over game audio. Only thing is they start to hurt your ears if you wear them for to long. The cord get's all tangled up sometimes because it's so long. Plus, I got them for an early Christmas present at $40 bucks so, win win for me.

Whats better the X12 or X42? Cus when I think of a higher number I think of "more" advanced or "newer"

I just wished that they just numbered these things 1,2,3,4-

  • 12.01.2012 8:52 AM PDT

Yes, I AM just that awesome.

Skullcandy SLYR's are pretty good.

  • 12.01.2012 8:54 AM PDT

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

The turtle beaches are pretty fancy if you ask me.

Sennheiser PC-360 headphones with Astro mixamp

This

Best combination you can buy.

Don't ever buy anything TB LOL, they suck ass. The only headset from TB you should buy are the x12s and thats if you're new and want to take things slightly more serious and upgrade your default MS headset. They're only like $60, better than default headsets and last longer.

If you're going to drop more money then that, there are FAR better headsets out there than anything turtle beach makes.

Plantronics Gamecom 780, you can get them for 57$ in Amazon.
