Okay, this is what I think would be a good idea for destrucatble enviroment.
For example when you stick someone with a gernade and there near a wall the player would hit the wall and make a dent and cracks on the wall. Furthermore, and their would dust and small amounts of debris all over the place. It would be realstic to when the players hit the walls but the damage to the walls with be limited. I mean the whole wall won't be fully destructable and it would maybe damage only a quater of the wall.
Another think would be if a gernade blows up on the ground it would lift the dirt up instead of just causing a smoke screen. It would have both like a real gernade blowing up on dirt minus the hole it would make.
If the gernade blew up on cement it would blow debris all over the place and have smoke also but again minus the hole it would cause. I say minus the hole it causes in the ground because people would hate it .
The walls would have dents and tiny bit of debris would fall of when it was hit with guns and for plasmas it would just melt a little.
For the vehicles if you shoot it with bullets it would make dents on it and for the warthog if you shoot the glass it would shatter infront of you and damage you.
For the armor there should be holes when you get hit with bullets and then die just to make it look realstic when you get hit. Furthermore, if you get hit in the in the face the helmet should crack but never break so we could not see the MC's face.
Thats all my ideas for now I will put more ideas when i think of them.
fell free to critacize(sp?) but nicely and not flamming ruthlessly.
Post your ideas of how you want the enviroment to be destructable and what kind of damage happens to the armor. We all want halo 3 to be realstic a little bit.

I like your Idea, but I want to see fully destructable/interactive environments and vehicles. Just imagine being on the second floor of a building when a pelican is flying over head. Then a rocket screams through the air and rips its wing off, the pilot screams " ****, we're going down". The people in the passenger area of the pelican now see a big burning hole where the wing used to be. Then the pelican smashes into the third story of the building you are in, ripping up the floor, ceiling, and walls. It comes out the other side of the building and smashes into the street and explodes with a good sized crater. You are surrounded by dust and smoke, but when it clears you see fire, debris, and the third floor is gone.

Love the idea gage1030 would be sweet for a cutscene. As for having a fully destructable enviroment come on we both no bungie will not do that sort of think due the point ppl would start hating it. There has to be a little destructability in the enviroment juat to make it realstic. But great idea for a cutscene.

that would be so cool and really bad if u are on the otherside of the builing and u hear an explosion and look towords then u see a pelcian fly through the wall right at u and u think awe -blam!-! and then u die in the firy explosion, awe pricless multiplayer action

They should have more things like in waterworks and zanzibar where the stalagtites fall and some of the pillers can me chipped away at in zanzibar

just think a warthog drives by the edge of a cliff and you shoot the cliff in front of it and it cashes down on the warthog

Or the banshee shoots a hole in the building and flys in or a tank blasts huge holes so a warthog can drive in!

Subject: 'realistic' vs 'believability'

Eeek. I hate that word 'realistic' when used in terms of games. I don't think games should strive to be a mirror of the real world. Rather, the worlds they exist in should be 'believeable.'

So, like, every scientific fact should not be adhered to strongly and unquestioningly. Well, Sci-Fi games by their very nature are unrealistic, so it is impossible for them to be realistic.

But you should be able to believe that the world you are going through, the characters you meet and the places you go, could actually be real.

Things like real-world physics help with believeability, and shouldn't be relied upon to say 'oh this game is realistic,' cus it isn't. A bit of artistic licence on reality makes the most interesting worlds IMO.

The shin high concrete walls in Outskirts (the very beginning) are completely destructable .. maybe it was a pilot scheme to see how it changed combat .. it changes alot if you're hiding from a sniper and the wall suddenly gives way ..

I like both ideas, but they need a level of balance. Say, only certain walls were FULLY destructable.

This would be a good example of full destructable environment.

Just watch the first one (only like 6 mins long). I figure this is what you guys are looking for in a destructible environment.
