Since I have a PS3 and I am also a BF3 Premium member. I got early access to the Aftermath expansion. The maps are filled with destruction down to the smallest of details. You even see cracks in the ground from where the violent shaking tore it apart... BTW, that still happens during play time.
Every once in a while, the map will get a slight aftershock that can obscure your vision while aiming. It is a nice little feature, but I have yet to see anything HUGE that can really affect a player--would have also been more cool if it caused some destruction on the map.
The maps are filled with trenches and rubble hills so much that it feels like no mans land from WWI. Cool it may be, it does however make driving a chore. You cannot really speed everywhere you go or you may end up in a ditch and die. It sorta forces you to go slower and watch your surroundings since you can be attacked from literally anywhere... You may even see loads of the enemy team charge uphill for your control point while you set up your support kit with a bipod and mow them all down D-Day style.
There is also a new game type called "SCAVENGER". You start off with only your selected pistol and struggle to survive while trying to find a better weapon with little ammo. Each one that you find has its own rank, that determines what attachments it has. Like, you can find a crossbow with an ACOG and explosive bolts... Who knew?
Speaking of the Crossbow; lets talk about how it feels like your throwing plushy kittens at the enemy rather than going all "SPARTAN SPEAR TIME" on their digital arses.
If you play normal mode while using this weapons, then you better be ready to get lucky. It takes more than one shot to kill somebody with standard bolts and sincerely makes me want to introduce a cheese grater to my head. The only way that it feels truly effective is when you have the explosive bolts with a better site. However when you do land that killing blow; it feels so great.
It is pretty easy to unlock. Just win three matches of Scavenger and you are in!
Some vehicles are different too. They appear to be "rigger niged" together with scrap found about the wastes. Some even have two weapon systems mounted on them. Not bad!
All in all it is a pretty good expansion. Maps are greatly detailed and constructed, the new game type is pretty fun for a change of pace. The Crossbow can be satisfying, but feels very underpowered. So yeah, it is worth in my opinion. Except for one thing!
...WHERE IS MY DINO MODE DICE!!!!
