Or if I was Del Rio I would've done this to the Didact when he was floating between towers waiting for a ship.

Hardlight shields.

Don't want to risk destroying any valuable resources or technology.

Infinity's weapons would have in all likelyhood been useless on him. Even the railgun that made him back off just bounced off the shields. TBH I think he just backed off so as to not risk losing the Covenant forces and ships he had.

Del Rio is a jackass, that's why he didn't shoot the Didact. as for the rest, remember that requiem is encased in a metal shell. to bombard the surface the infinity would need to go inside, and that didn't work out too well last time. Plus, there are valuable artifacts on requiem that they don't want to accidentally blow up.

yes but it would've been nice to return the favor to the covenant after they glassed the outer colonies....

It was a cryptum, not a warship. If the turret MAC was enough to drive him off, the infinity's main MACs would probably obliterate it.

As I said, the railguns did no noticable damage to him at all. They didn't even penetrate his shields, which is why I believe he backed off because he didn't want to risk losing the Covenant, not necessarily himself.

Plus there was the matter later that if Infinity attacked Didact, the only garuntee would be a swarm of Covie warships tearing Infinity apart. Didact might even have survived.
